While out shopping yesterday ( I love to do this and I know other gals love to too) I was confronted in every store with the sign “ Must have“ .
I know I “must have” some tops, skirts and jeans, etc. But is everything a “must have”? The first store I went into had a “must have” sign by the blouses. How many blouses do I need I asked myself??? Then onto the next store again confronted with “must have” tee-shirts – I have enough of these too.
And it seemed that this sign “must have” was following me from store to store and I just couldn’t escape from it. It somehow seemed glaring at me wherever I went. I felt as if I was being stalked by some plague that wouldn’t let me go. Why me – aren’t there any other women out there plagued by this problem too or am I the only one?
I know I have the shoe and handbag disease but how many “must have’s” do I have to have? I was in a delirious state so I called my girlfriend on my new trusty cell phone and suggested we meet-up for a coffee. I needed to clear my brain. And thank goodness she had time for me and once we were drinking our coffee I started to explain to her about all the “must have’s”, but somehow she” must have” thought that I “must have” a problem because I didn’t like all the “must have’s”.
Then to my surprise she pulls a magazine out of her handbag showing all the “must have’s” for the spring 2012 season. You can just imagine how I felt when I took the “must have” magazine in my hand and started leafing through the pages. As I turned the pages I could see by looking at all the “must haves” that if I didn’t buy the “must have’s” I would look like a misfit in the office!
I sat there for a moment with my eyes closed and tried to imagine -> there I am standing giving a presentation to the members of the board and have them sniggering to each other saying “ she doesn’t have a spring 2012 “must have” on. My career is ruined then and there!
I thought if I had half a brain I would rush out after work and buy all the “must have’s”; so then I’ll be on the safe side of things. Because I don’t want to caught dead without a “must have” on.
So then I mentioned to my friend we need to make a “must have” list for me and boy she was ready in a flash with her phone with apps to take notes and steer us in the direction of making my bank account broke!!
My list was like this (only for work all prices without sales tax):
2-Printed trench coat – $ 498.00 / $ 346.00
Business bag for computer and other necessities – $ 517.00
Dress – $ 249.00
Shoes ( 2 pairs) – $ 905.00
Make-up – $228.00
Grand total of : $ 2,743.00
Costing all that I’ll need to take out a self improvement “must have” loan or else I’m not in for spring 2012. I feel devastated now after calculating my “must have’s”.
I always pay cash for everything and never use a credit card and by the time I save enough up for the spring must have it’ll be Christmas time 2012 and I won’t have any money for the other season” must have’s” let alone to be able to even afford a coffee with my friends. I feel a panic attack coming on just thinking about this.
Though maybe I could spend less money on all those “must haves” then I would have money for the other season “must haves” that is approaching us at the speed of light.
Plus, how do I tell my girlfriend that has found all the stores via her cell phone app that I won’t buy anything and then she says to me “How can you be sooooo tight fisted with your money?” I hope we can come to a compromise and I’ll look for a store that has “must haves” on sale and then I won’t feel so bad and at the same time I have a “must have”.
Don’t forget your “must have’s” and think about it “must you have it”?
