Why Must I Buy a Christmas Present?

Why must I buy something and spend a fortune on Christmas presents?? Is this because society wants me too or is it that I may have a guilty concise if I don’t spend a lot of money on Christmas presents? Both are good questions indeed and as far as spending goes it has been decided at my place what will be put under our tree from me…. All things will be made by me and I will/ have take/ taken the time to create each one.

My first project was to knit a couple of pairs of slippers for around the house… That’s a useful present and I know for sure it won’t get thrown away or end up in a box. And just the other day finished knitting a hat too. All that stuff that I knitted my not have cost a buddle for the material but I took the time to make some thing’s for my friends and family.

Plus, there is all the baking that I will do, so everyone gets homemade cookies too… NO, package mix either!!! Good homemade cookies made from scratch. They smell great baking in the oven.. sorry I couldn’t let you get a whiff of that here. Just shut your eyes and dream about it…

Then there’s the project that I am working on and no it isn’t your normal present for your parents… I have spent hours wondering what to get my parents and when they have everything then what??? I pondered for hours and asked friends and they all came up with the same idea… but I knew that wasn’t for me!

I want something original for my parents something that they can look at and remember me with and it doesn’t contain any calories either. Can you guess??

I bet not because your to fixed on the idea with knitting and think – OK , she’s going to knit something- WRONG! I am making a video of what I do in the course of the week including work and all the other stuff in my life too… That’s original and it only costs me my time and burning the DVD that I have to buy and I am sure my parents will get hours of enjoyment out of my video depicting all sorts of aspects of my life including this blog! My parents don’t understand really what a blog is, so I gave up trying to explain. But they do know it has something to do with the internet… that vague virtual world out there.

Sorry got side tracked – But I believe if a person puts a little thought into things they could come up with some really nifty ideas for Christmas presents and at the same time showing their family and friends that they put some thought into the whole deal and didn’t just spend some cash on any old thing that everyone else has.

Take time and put some thought into the holiday season and you will be surprised at how many folks really like the gifts that were created by you and not off the shelf.

A Christmas Tree- Yes, That’s for Me!

Well, Christmas is approaching at the speed of light and on Saturday is the 1st of December – where does time go???? A Christmas tree is at the top of my list this year and a lovely green tree in my living room all decorated and smelling good just makes you want to enjoy all the pre-holiday days before Santa Claus comes down the chimney.

My mom & dad always put up the Christmas tree the first weekend in December so that we could enjoy it the whole month long, and believe me we did!!! And it wasn’t only the two legged folks either but my faithful childhood companion Cesar. Now as a dog he seemed to view the tree with other thoughts on his mind and it wasn’t sitting there looking at it or taking in the lovely fragrance of the tree either…..

I bet you can guess – One year my dad decided to buy a huge Christmas tree about 8 feet tall and it was really big but then again we had a huge living room so no problems with the tree or at least that’s what my parents thought….. My dad so proudly positioned the tree in the stand and placed it in front of the window like every year, but this was the first Christmas for Cesar at our house so in a dogs mind what is a tree good for????

Right!!! He went over to the tree sniffed at it and lifted his leg and decided to water the tree. I don’t want to repeat here what my dad said to Cesar but you can imagine and it wasn’t very nice! I can remember my mom say to my dad “You shouldn’t say such things in front of your daughter.” My dad was so mad at the dog that he didn’t care and I thought “wow, now I know some new words that you shouldn’t say!”

So Cesar had some good points when it came to learning things you shouldn’t say. Thank you, Cesar you enriched my life and I will never forget you for that!!!

Anyways after he was banished from the house for awhile he could come back in because my mom felt sorry for him outside in the cold, and by now it was dark outside and like every year we had a special ceremony at our house for the official lighting of the tree with hot chocolate, music and the works…
It was a great time and we were all proud of our Christmas tree because we decorated it ourselves and it looked great with all those colored lights and sparkling glass decorations glistening in the dark….. For about 15 minutes at least! This tree was not the Christmas tree that brought good times too our house because once we were all seated in the living room looking at how wonderful the tree looked Cesar came in and had a look at the tree and saw his reflection in one of the ornaments and wham-o he attacked the Christmas tree and dragged it across the living room floor.

Now my dad was flaming mad to say the least!!!!! And I knew that I better get out-a there as fast as I can before I get in trouble. I was summand to take Cesar upstairs to my room and watch him. I thought then and there that was the end of my loving relationship with Cesar…. That brought tears to my eyes!!!

But what did my mom & dad do they cleaned up the mess. My dad fastened the tree to the wall and we had a big section of the tree where there were no decorations, so Cesar wouldn’t see himself again and attack the tree. That was a Christmas tree to remember and I loved that tree and that Christmas, and because of that tree I have always had a Christmas tree in my house ever since I’ve left home.

Enjoy your Christmas tree!

Twinkies are Leaving us Too?

Another sad day has come upon us this year 2012 and like all the other sad things that will be leaving our lives this year is the Twinkie that has maybe decided to join the ranks too. I could cry now… my childhood memories of those sweet Twinkies is fading away too.

Twinkies were a main staple in my lunch box in elementary school and they held the power that you could control your friends with because my mom put a Twinkie in my lunch box and my friends moms didn’t. My friends would sometime drool just looking at me eat my Twinkie and of course I had to exaggerate a bit as too how much I was enjoying it. Or there were kids who wanted to swap something from their lunch box for my Twinkie. But I was not going to be weakened by the temptations of other forms of food…. No way!!! Twinkies were my favorite snack!!!

That sugary thing gave me endless hours of energy and no one ever thought about the amount of sugar in it or if it would make me hyper active or cause cavities… No sir; Twinkies were just another enjoyable snack that you bit into and enjoyed the flavor of the thing. But as I got older I must say I wasn’t always a loyal Twinkie fan there was another enticing chocolate treat called ( can’t remember the name) but it was round and chocolate with a creamy filling between 2 chocolate cake like whatever and coated with chocolate and that too was full of nutrition that wound me up for hours too, and let alone thinking about the calories in it….. My waistline is expanding at the thought… over the lips and on the hips!!!

But those chocolate things just couldn’t compete with the Twinkies in my mind! Twinkies are and were one of a kind in taste and that was what counted… Who in their right mind could let such a great treat pass away????

Those fond memories associated with a Twinkie are priceless and so are the hours I spent with my friends eating them too. My mom would bring home a package of Twinkies and we could devour them in minutes if my mom let us, but of course she always said “Not more than one dear because we’re having dinner in an hour.” My thought was who cares about dinner I want to eat the Twinkies and not some boring meal that my mom would cook. I thought back then that moms have no idea about life and what is really good to eat even though I knew deep inside me that she meant well. I saw it as just trying to spoil my fun!

So Twinkie manufactures, don’t let the Twinkie pass away… That was my childhood !!!

How much Money to Spend on Christmas?

How much money to spend on Christmas is a good question? With the big day just a couple of weeks around the corner everyone is starting to panic and worry about what is the “must have” for Christmas 2012???? I have no idea and I am not going to worry about it either.

Or the Friday where many folks hope to get the bargain of a lifetime and fight the crowds so they can save a couple of bucks… Is it really worth it I ask? Why do we always have to buy something for everyone for Christmas?? Isn’t Christmas about goodwill and cheer or has that idea been flushed down the toilet too like all the other things in life that once held true…. Times aren’t like they used to be!

I have seen many an ad or commercial for things that I nor my guy need but the ads always say that that is the gift to give and it will make your better half happy. Isn’t my better half happy when I don’t buy him that present??? Will he just stare at me on Christmas day and say to me “How could you be such a tight wad!!” and that would only be because I didn’t do what the ad said …. Buy that expensive gift… It makes me feel like my relationship will end then and there when I don’t spend a bundle of cash. Does my guy still love me ????

My guy would be happy when I do something nice for him or make him something, because he says then he feels that I really thought about him and not just opened up my wallet and spent some grubby looking bank notes on something that will end up in the closet a couple of weeks after Christmas and never to be seen again for the next 15 years… You know what I am talking about?

Someone gives you a present for Christmas [normally with good intentions] and after you have un-wrapped it and thanked them and said how wonderful the present is and it lands back under the tree… the life after is it ends up hidden away after the Christmas tree is taken down never again to see daylight again. I love those gifts and seem to have collected a lot of interesting things through the years and wonder sometimes even today- What should I do with the present??? Throw it away? I can’t do that. Give it to someone else??? Bad idea all my friends know each other and that is definitely out of the question, so what do I do put it in the box with all the other stuff that I have collected through the years.

Plus, there is more to the pre holiday season then just shopping. There’s the decorating of the tree or the smell of baking cookies in the oven or the aroma of a warm punch and all the other great things that go alone with this time of year making it a joyous season.

Enjoy your pre-Christmas preparations and take time to enjoy the small things in life too!

Thanks for Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving has come and gone in one country and in another everyone is waiting patiently for it to come. Without those brave folks risking their life and limb to cross the Atlantic to start a new life there may not have ever come about the “Thanksgiving Day”. So thank you pilgrims!

Today we only need to go to the grocery store and pick out a turkey and all the other stuff that you want to eat with it and in no time at all you can serve up a great meal for your family and friends. Boy, how easy life can be!!!

Those poor pilgrims had to invest a lot of time into their Thanksgiving meal and that required good planning and hopefully someone would spot a turkey to shot … I’m tired already thinking about the work involved. Then once a turkey was bagged and back home they went and the guys gal had to do the rest of the work, like clean the bird and cook it in a wood stove (maybe- can’t say because I wasn’t around back then.)or an open fire until it was done…. Thank goodness for electric ovens!

These thoughts bring back fond memories of my mom cooking us a wonderful meal on that day and the smell of the turkey cooking lingering in the air… I’m getting hungry!!! My mom invested a lot of time too.. Ok, not as much as the pilgrim gals, but still it did take her sometime. And I can say it was worth every minute that I waited. Some years it seemed like December because there was snow on the ground outside on Thanksgiving Day. I wonder did the pilgrims have snow on Thanksgiving Day way back then??

Though Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks and be with your family and friends but somehow I feel it has lost its touch and become very commercialized. We should be thankful that we can be together with our family and friends and that everyone is healthy and can enjoy a lovely meal together no matter what you serve on that day.
You don’t need to spend a fortune just to try to impress people on that day. It’s a day of giving thanks and should be remember as that.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving Day this week and remember to give thanks for the great food that you are served and to appreciate the work involved in it.

My Wallet has a Problem

It must be true because I read it that people tend to spend grubby cash notes [paper money] faster than crisp new notes from the bank. I never gave this much thought until today and so naturally I had a quick peek in my wallet only to find that none of the bank notes are brand new. A sad day for me but a good reason to go shopping!!!!!
Shopping mall here I come – my wallet is burning

I mean really who wants dirty bank notes in their wallets??? Not me and so from now on I am going to always ask for fresh clean notes when I go to the store, because I do not want to get my change back and it’s some grubby looking note that could ruin the look of my wallet…. What would my friends think of me?????
I can see it now I am out and about with my gal friends and I have to pay for something ….. I am starting to get nervous at the thought! Well, I open my wallet and staring at me are old grubby used bank notes. My gal friends would just stare at me in disbelief and ask me “what has happened to you?” The pitfalls of paying cash..

This seems to be a dilemma that I will have to live with and I do hope that all my gal friends don’t look down on me because I don’t have fresh bank notes in my wallet… Though I should take a peek in their wallets too see what the state is of their bank notes are and if they are grubby looking than I won’t fell soooooo bad. My day is saved!

But before I go shopping today I’ll make a quick stop at the bank to ask for a couple of new bank notes so when I open my wallet it doesn’t look like I only carry around grubby looking notes with me… the stress of money!

Who ever thought that it would come to this point in life that we only want new bank notes in our wallets? I am happy just to have some notes in my wallet whether they be old or new. I like cash in my wallet! And so I say too those folks with only new bank notes in their wallets that money is money and it all spends the same way whether new or used.

Enjoy your cash in your wallet and don’t spend it all in one place!

Great Stories are Abound

As I was just reading a couple of online newspapers and clicked on the sections with the amazing BUT true life stories about what people- mostly gals have experienced or what they do.
All I can say is that I seem to have a really boring life. I have never experienced such fascinating things and whether it be good or bad; I just seem to be left out and I don’t even have any gal friends who have experienced such things either….. I must have picked out the wrong friends!!!! So friends the sad truth is that I have to trade you in for a new group who are action packed with amazing stories…. I want action in my life!!!

I want action and gossip in my life not some normal everyday conversation about the latest fashion or my new cell phone or other boring topics. There was a gal who was addicted to eating burgers from some fast food restaurant and eats them for every meal. I really don’t know if I could eat soooooo many burgers because I am not a burger fan. Sorry folks!! But it is something to talk about and hey you make the newspaper.

Though the other poor gal who was changing the vacuum cleaner bag on her vacuum and found a pair of underwear from some other chick – Now that’s a reason to be upset with your guy… or?? Or did she place them there herself to get back at her guy for something???? The mystery of a great vacuum story is coming your way, so stay tuned for the vacuum cleaner saga in your area to find out what happens.

But there’s the chick who sold a relative’s house so she could get a lot of money. How she did this isn’t too clear and somehow I don’t think it would be as easy as they presented it. Somehow journalist today seem to have an imagination beyond belief, but then again they need to make a living too, so hey why not write some crazy articles about whatever they think would sell. I read it and had a good laugh.

Then there’s also some lonely gal who shares her place with one of those gray colored pigs. Now that could be a bit of a shocker if she met some guy and she said to him” let’s go back to my place” – there he is sitting in the living room while she is in the kitchen pouring 2 glasses of wine and the poor unsuspecting guy sitting there with other thoughts on his mind and is then confronted with a pig that crept up behind him… Now that could be a real date killer if you ask me!!!! So gals I would suggest forget having a pig as a house pet; just stick to the normal cat or dog to be on the safe side when you want to meet a guy.

Or to top things off the gal who spent all her money on horoscope calls and the other who spent a fortune on clothes… where do all these folks come from????? I have never even met a person who has experienced anything that would come close to all the articles about the goings on in their lives.
I want action and I hope this weekend that I can experience at least one thing that would make my life as moving as those gals in the newspapers. I will keep my eyes peeled and hope for an action packed weekend.

Enjoy your weekend even if you don’t meet such interesting people!

Make-up Maintenance

As always the sunny days are over and since my skin isn’t as young as it used to be it needs a little help and sure enough make-up is there to solve all those little skin blemishes.. Or at least I hope so???

I noticed when I was looking the other day for some new make-up that there’s a whole new range out there that will make my skin like a new piece of wood or metal. The wording was great on the labels and never before did I realize that human skin had taken on the characteristics of metal or wood.

So, I guess now-a-days that without my primer as it’s called my skin won’t be able to retain the make-up on its surface. The thought of all those years that I have been walking around not knowing that I needed a primer for my skin could make me scream!!!!

I thought primer was used for other material and not for use on the skin or have those manufactures just re-colored the primer from the DIY store and put it in little make-up tubes to sell it to unsuspecting females…… All I can say here is – Not me, I’m not putting any primer on my face no matter what the packaging looks like.

Or there was the maintenance cream ….. Please tell me what the heck is that supposed to do??????

Isn’t the word maintenance also to do with machinery ???? Guys, I need your help here…..HELP

With my maintenance cream on my face and my primer smeared on top then I guess I am ready for any stressful situation that involves some sort of machinery or wood, or metal. But another thought just popped into my mind. I bet those creams are made for gals who are mechanics or craftsperson’s, so the cream that they put on their faces gives them a special feeling associated with their work… Sounds good or not???

Not to forget the high-tech creams too. Those are for gals in the computer branch –I guess. But then again those cream manufactures seem to be forgetting a couple of other professions where gals may wear make-up too.

Otherwise, I cannot think of one good reason for such names for cosmetics for women, though the products are probably made by guys and they just weren’t thinking when they thought of names for the products. And thier thoughts may have been on building themselves a garden shed where they could meet-up for a beer after work. So that’s where all the names came from… good theory, if you ask me. Ok, I know you didn’t!

I have to be honest here and say I will not be putting any primer or maintenance cream, or high-tech cream on my face.
I like the normal names because I am a gal who likes gal stuff and not all those other nonsense names given to a product that promise me the world and at the end of the day it’s a plain old moisturizer in disguise.

Perfect Day Today?

The perfect day has finally arrived and we can now all enjoy it if you have enough time and don’t work otherwise I don’t think the perfect day would work??? Or am I missing something here….

In the perfect day you only have about 36 minutes for work, so how do I manage a perfect day when I have to work 8-10 hours a day???………The answer is easy; fit this into your day and you will have a perfect day.

So my perfect day in a week would be as follows:

Ok, forget taking a shower and getting dressed after I get-up because that just doesn’t seem to fit into the plan for a perfect day, so I’ll go to work in my pj’s( I guess). Note: the scientist seemed to forget that people normally get cleaned up before they leave the house… Where were their brains???? That question you can answer yourself. Thank you

Well, I do have time for breakfast, say about 15 minutes and then I’m out of here and on my way to work. Another problem there is only 33 minutes a day allotted to commuting. Now what???? I feel my day may not be sooooo perfect now! But I am sure if I leave out something else I will be able to have a perfect day. But all the other stuff in a perfect day is fun too…. I want a perfect day!!!!

Finally at work now I have 48 minutes for my computer, so I’ll have to stretch this out over the day otherwise I may not look busy. So, I think I will make a couple of calls to my friends and so that gives me about 58 minutes divided by 3 and so each for my friends get 19.33 minutes of my time. I better set the timer so I don’t go over 19.33 minutes. I hope my friends won’t get upset??? But then again they want to have a perfect day too….

Now that I have called all my friends I have 78 minutes to relax and think about what I can do the rest of my perfect day. But the sad part now is none of my friends have time to meet-up this afternoon because we could spend a whole 82 minutes together on a normal perfect day. Where’s my perfect day?????????

But I could have a little nap at my desk- I have 46 minutes to shut my eyes. Though with this perfect day I still haven’t done any work and when the boss comes into my office then it will definitely NOT BE A PERFECT DAY!!!

I still haven’t had a perfect day at work, but instead I have gotten some strange looks and asked by my colleagues at work “Why am I still in my pj’s” – I said today is a perfect day and there is no time for getting dressed in a perfect day. I am not sure if my answer satisfied them or they just thought that I had gone bonkers. I would tend to think the latter that I had gone bonkers!

Ah, forget work I’ll just go home and maybe go shopping there I have 58 minutes.. I better be quick or else I won’t be able to fit all my shopping into my perfect day. I am starting to feel tired again but since I used up my nap time earlier I have no more time for relaxing…..I’m starting to feel stressed out… what should I dooooo????

I’ll just go home and putter around the house for 47 minutes and then watch some TV until my guy comes home and then I have 50 minutes to whip us up a great meal. I hope I can manage that job??? Great thing about a perfect day there is no time left for arguing about something. Now that does make for a perfect day.

The highlight of a perfect day is that you have 106 minutes for you partner. Now that’s something or??? What you do in that time is up to you. I know what I would do and timing is of the essences. Don’t want to ruin a perfect day… eh??????

Enjoy your perfect day where ever you are in the world and don’t forget to keep an eye on the clock or else you won’t have that perfect day…. Enjoy yourself!!
