Windy Weather

I am just sitting here listening to the wind outside and how it seems to be howling around the corners of the house.

There was a kids rhyme(poem) once wasn’t there about wind in the springtime??? Or have I gotten it mixed up with another season???? But I know it has to do with windy weather and even in spring we can have snow…Burrrr

And because it is so windy outside I think I will dedicate this little poem (Author unknown) to all the poor little birds outside having to weather this windy weather… Poor things!!

The north wind doth blow,
And we shall have snow,
And what will poor robin do then?
Poor thing!
He’ll sit in the barn,
And keep himself warm,
And hide his head under his wing.
Poor thing!

I hope that not too many little birds lose their nests on this very windy day of spring!

Take a Walk

Today is national take a walk day where I live…. I guess that means that I should go for a walk today in the inclement weather that we are having… Why couldn’t this day have fallen on a day when the sun was shining? Then I would have been more than happy to go for a walk!! Simple as that…

But no… we are having rain and it is windy making it so that I want to stay inside. But what is “National go for a walk day” anyway? Is this the only day of the year to go for a walk or am I allowed to go for a walk on other days too??? I don’t really need a national day to make me go outside and go for a walk and anyway; Just one day a year…. Doesn’t seem like much to me!

They say that a person should take regular walks to stay healthy and to do that I think you have to walk more than one day a year?? Or am I wrong???? And how many people know that today is “National go for a walk day?” ….. I sure didn’t until someone told me. I have been wandering around all day not knowing this important tidbit of information! I feel somewhat left out of the information chain here and how should I deem the importance of such information too??

Okay, I have always heard people say that going for a walk is a good way to let off steam if you are upset, so does that mean I can only let off steam once a year… What do I do the other days then??

These sort of new days always make me wonder who thinks up such stuff and do they get paid for the idea??? If they do get paid; please tell me where the company is that makes-up this stuff, because if they pay well then I will apply for a job there. Don’t forget to send me the address please!

I can see it now.. Forget my boring 9 to 5 office job! No, I can have a 9 to 5 office job where I can think of special day that should be thought about that no one thinks about…. I feel success is just waiting for me around the corner! I think I will take tomorrow off to celebrate my “idea day” and so please do not try to contact me tomorrow at my office because I am not there but celebrating my new “idea day”…. Please don’t tell your friends about this or else they may want to join in on it too!!

Enjoy your walk or idea or both, because they both can be fun!

New Hair Style ..New Bad Hair Day!

I recently went and had had my hair cut to bring me into the feeling that spring is coming and the warmer days are just on the horizon…… or so I thought????

I made my appointment and had the usual consultation as to which hair cut suits me best…. In my opinion they all would look good on me( I want to be a goddess with my new hair style!!) , but the stylist told me based on the shape of my face I should choose another one and not the cool looking style that I saw in a fashion magazine….. I guess looking cool is out for me (Forget my goddess look then!!) and a simple easy to manage style is better. And to be honest it should be….Right???

There I sat enjoying having someone wash my hair and cut it into my dream easy to manage great looking new style… I am not exaggerating with the words that I am using here… The “easy to manage great looking new style” were the words the stylist used. After I heard those words a little alarm bell went off in my brain warning me…. That this hair cut won’t be easy to manage and will I really look great???? The questions surmounted in my brain….

After what seemed to be an eternity with the cutting and then showing me how easy it will be to blow dry my hair and style it once I am back home… Life couldn’t have been better!!

Plus, all the products you need to keep the hair styled like it was cost me a fortune… But I wanted to look like the goddess of spring with my new hair cut!! So, hey what is spending a small fortune on my looks????

After leaving the salon; I felt like a million dollars and looked it too (at least in my eyes..) , and the amount of hairspray, styling gel and so forth that was in my hair, I knew my new look could withstand hurricane force winds and not have a hair out of place! World here I come….

But I knew I would have to wash my hair and style it myself when I was at home, but with all the stuff I had bought to create this look I knew that I would be able to get this look again in about 15 minutes tops and ready for the day then….. All I can say is that that was a dream and it only lasted until I started to blow dry my hair!!

There I was freshly showered with damp hair just waiting to be styled… I got out all the stuff I needed, blow dryer, brushes, gels and mousses, and so on. Now I could start!!

After applying all the hair styling products it was now just minutes away before the perfect look would be created….Dream on is all I can say!!!

Somehow, once I started to dry my hair I noticed that I didn’t have enough hands to hold the brush(s), hold the other strands of hair and operate the blow dryer… Then to top it off; which made matters worse I got my hair tangled up in the brush, and the gel in my hair was turning sticky in spots because I wasn’t working fast enough ( believe me; I said something that I will not repeat here)…

I thought then and there that I should have four hands instead of two for styling my hair or a home stylist who comes to my place each morning to give me the same look that I had when I left the hair stylist… I am sure some of you gals out there know exactly what I mean here????

The stylist presented it as if it was so easy to create alone at home, but I never thought about the fact that she was styling my hair and that at home I have to do the whole job myself… This thought is really upsetting to me now!

My cool new hair cut and style that could withstand a hurricane is now demoted to a style that has a little volume and is not weather resistant… So much for my spring time goddess look!!

I hope you aren’t having a bad hair day today?

The Desk Calendar

Yes, the good’ol desk calendar and they are still around. I was just admiring my desk calendar; not for its beauty, but for its usefulness.

Every year I get one or two or more….. With some company ad or logo on it with its trusty cardboard backing and paper pages listing 3 months at a time so that I have an overview of how fast time flies by! Okay, that is not the intention of the desk calendar. It is to help me at that precise moment when I need to know a date or day.

These things have been around for as long as I can remember and still have not lost their usefulness in this electronic age. Sure we have the programs where you can have an overview of what is happening in your work day and they remind you not to forget the next meeting and so forth…. But that little bit of cardboard paper has that special bit of humanism to it. It is there it is real and I can touch it and it is there on my desk staring at me without requiring a back-up system or electricity to look at it.

I can write on it. I can doodle on it or even make notes on the back of the pages of the past months… recycling paper. I love my desk calendar! Just flipping through the months and seeing “how many Friday the 13ths there are this year( 3 if you are interested) …. ” or when everyone’s birthday is ; that is just a wonderful thing.

But does anyone think about that anymore in this electronic age???? When there is a power outage then I cannot see what is on my computer calendar , but with my paper desk calendar I have no worries, because it is just there waiting for me to write on/in it, and it will be there whether there is electricity or not. A great invention!!!

Who ever invented these things really came up with something great and that it is still around proves that it is a great thing even in modern times….. I know most of you never make a second thought about your desk calendar, if you have one????? And if you do; have you ever taken the time to think about how handy that thing is??? I bet not… We just take desk calendars for granted.

I am happy to be a proud owner of such a thing and that those companies sent me one… I say thank you and please keep sending them to me, because I am a nostalgia buff who likes that bit of paper on my desk to keep me in line with life as to how it once was and not lose everything to electronically operated devices.

Enjoy your desk calendar too!

Comments……

I have recently taken up reading the comments people write after an article and find it rather amusing and almost better than the article itself… because there are people out there that seem to take what they wrote very seriously and when someone else comments on what they wrote (criticizing) them, and it leads to a form of a nasty exchange of words between two or more people who may not know each other…. What could be a nightmare is that the person is your neighbor and you don’t even know it…. Now that would be something!!!

Isn’t it so… when I would write my opinion about something that I can expect someone maybe to comment on it???? And if someone does I have to be prepared to handle what that other person wrote. At least in theory..

But then there in the space for comments people write little stories about something relating to the article… I wonder if they are trying to tell me something or trying to show off???? Of course I would not ask them because it is a proven fact that most things that are written and read by someone else are misunderstood and so I think I won’t write anything and just stick to reading the comments.

Though sometimes my fingers are burning to comment on something, but hey it is too much work for me to write something in that little space and maybe it too would be misunderstood, so I will steer away from it!!

I have even seen when someone writes that they like the article; there is someone out there who doesn’t.. It seems you just cannot make everyone happy when a person writes something…

I am just happy that I don’t work for a newspaper and have to write articles that people can comment on. That would make me cry, because when I took hours maybe even weeks to write something and I receive a load of negative comments … and then too maybe even get in trouble with the boss because that person saw that the public didn’t like what I wrote……. I better stay clear of that career path and stay where I am.!!! I feel better already….

I think to write well is a somewhat demanding job and I will leave that up to the professionals out there who can handle all the comments and I will continue reading all the comments…Thank you to all the people out there who write comments after articles… You make my life interesting!!
