Party line ©sueromeiser

In our modern world times have changed and we communicate a bit differently then in the past. Now a days we have group chats, video calls and telco’s and other ways to join us together as a group. Now in our time where we are a bit disconnected from family and friends, we use these modern ways of communication.

But when I look back at my childhood those times were not like that….. We had the good’ol “party line” where we were connected together by a single telephone number..OMG!!!!

One telephone number and 4 other people using the line together. Not a bad thing if you are all friends, but if you aren’t, well, well, well is all I can say. Then there was always the person who liked to eaves drop on the other while they were having their afternoon party line coffee time. That was a highlight for my mom!

There she was with her mug of coffee and all the other women who were her friends picked up the receiver at the same time and began to gossip about whatever. As a kid I never understood it, but now looking at the modern ways of communication nothing has changed; just the way it is done, and there was no camera back then either. Though one fun highlight for me was answering the phone and not listening to the number of rings and the call was for someone else and they made it really clear to me that I should not have answered the phone….. Party poopers!!!

Though I can add that the party line fun ended after a couple of years when the telephone company decided to change its system and everyone got their own telephone number and every telephone call costed a lot of money, so as I look back at it, it must have put a damper on my moms afternoon coffee with the gals

Enjoy a coffee with friends online in these times where we are social distancing from friends and family.

The morning show… Good morning on Sunday ©sueromeiser

Well as you know we all (well most of us) watch the morning show to give us an insight into our day and to inform ourselves about the events around the world.

As a gal who loves to watch TV and keep herself informed in these trying times, I have started to watch the morning show. There I sit in my living room with my trusty zapper in my hand and I zap through the channels in the hope to find a program that would interest me. I mean really there are the business programs reporting to us the latest stock market activity… Which again this jargon can be really confusing and sending my brain spinning…. OMG!!! What are those people talking about???? I need help just understanding the whole thing. Plus, the events like crimes and such about how the bad people in the world do bad things to other people…. That is really sad, if you ask me… What is the world coming to????

Then comes the tidbits about what is going on in the world of entertainment …. NOW …. That’s for me… seeing all those stars and getting a glimpse into their everyday lives. I mean really what those people are up too and what kind of houses they live in… it is just an OMG moment!!!!

After a few commercials which offer me the opportunity to spend my money on things that I don’t need… I love commercials… There was one for some gardening stuff… Garden here I come, and it is true that gardening season is starting… Folks get out there and get that garden in order, now you have time…. At least I do!!

Thank goodness the commercials are over and I can finally get down to watching some serious television where the presenters talk about all kinds of stuff were they try to make the viewer feel like they are sitting with them on the hosts sofa presenting their show…. I wonder how much money those presenters make???? Maybe I should apply for a job as a morning TV host…… There are bright colored letters is my name and the world can sit in front of their tv’s and watch me present them the morning show…. WOW!!!!!! Stardom here I come….

I am getting bored watching tv because I normally don’t watch soooooo much tv, so maybe I should do something else???? Like go for a walk and get some fresh air or like I read the other day, which I found really interesting, learn something new while you have the time now instead of vegetating at home doing nothing…. Those are really great tips and can be fun too! Thanks to those TV folks for inspiring me!!!

So, to all those morning TV show fans…. Enjoy your morning show and as they say…. Stay tuned for the next episode… Have a great day!

Brighten your day with a bit of “Techi Talk”

Hi friends out there who need a bit of a laugh for today! I hope this brings a smile to you face from a repost of mine.

“Techi Talk” Posted on August 10, 2017 by sueromeiser©

Today with all these new techi computer words floating around I wonder what else they could mean besides there computer meaning and as a gal who isn’t always up to date in the world of computers and only recently being exposed to wonders of modern technology, I must say I was fascinated as to how I could translate those words into totally everyday means………

So, I thought I would give it a go and maybe you can relate to some of the translations too……..

API – always people interfere (You know the problem when you are trying to do something.)

Boot – sorry I only have one and lost the other boot. Bad if the weather isn’t so good outside.

Cloud- look up into the sky and see the wonders of nature

Chrome- Normally used as a plating for metal, but what do I know……..

Dialer – wasn’t that the thing on the telephones from yesteryear??

FAT – Find any things? This is good when looking for something

Gnome – that thing that was popular one time that lots of people had in their gardens or on their lawns…..

Hardware – something you do need when doing repairs around the house, and then you need to go to the hardware store to get the stuff you need to fix-up whatever you are fixing-up……. Makes sense????

HTML – How that much liked??? There you got it when wanting an opinion; just ask HTML….
Key- Something I need to get into my house

Laptop – That word is ,well how can I say it…… Sounds dated for computer words

Malware – That can happen when you get moles in your garden and they ruin everything, then you got a serious case of Malware!

MSP- This is a word to watch-out for ( Many serious problems) because it does direct one in a some what negative direction, but not really saying anything about what the problem is, so MSP it next time you have some issues.

Open office – the good old open office plan that has been around for years with everyone working in the same room together….OMG….. no thank you!

Plug in – easy plug the plug in the socket…. it couldn’t be any simpler.

Pop up – that happens when you put bread in the toaster to be toasted and when it is done being toasted it pop’s-up

PDF – oh, an office nightmare….Photocopier Doesn’t Function

QNX – now here you need a bit of imagination: Quite Normal Expressions; when translated into computer lingo means nothing is new.

Root – every plant has this… nothing new

Server- those folks must have gotten this inspiring word while they were drinking a coffee at a coffee shop and a server served them.

USB – Again a fascinating word : Underlying useless business….. This does happen in the business world,so be careful not to waste your time.

Virus – bad news with winter coming in a couple of months there are always lots of these in the air,so take care.

Wine – Tastes good sometimes with meals and come in different colors too.

Zip – those are on many jackets and other garments worn.

Now after translating these wonderful words you now may be better able to understand the other meanings as to how we non computer professional can keep up with the world of words today.

Computer folks keep those great words coming… GWC for now!

Ahoy….. My life’s an App Mar 5, 2012©

Though in these trying times one must stay focused and have a sense of humor, so I thought it would be fitting to bring a bit a humor into our dull home office days by reposting an old post from a couple of years ago. Enjoy and I hope it brings a smile to your face.

My life’s an app Mar 5, 2012©

Remember the days when you used to use your brain to think and answer questions when someone asked you something, and now-a-days the brain seems to be a stagnating mass within your head.

I can remember when you read something about something and actually remembered it or if you didn’t you could look it up in an encyclopedia and there you found the answer to your question and all this without an app.

I think back and ask myself: “How did I ever manage to get through my day without an app?” And the funny thing is I am still here and my brain still works without an app and I can remember information. I do not want to get addicted to an app. What happens if it is wrong? Then what do I do? Has anyone thought about that or are they trying to invent an app for that?

The other day at work we got talking about the world and stuff like that and one of my colleagues asked me what the longest river in the world was. ( I knew they wanted to see if I could manage without an app.)I answered without hesitating – the Nile and 2nd is the Amazon and 3rd is the Mississippi. Of course no one believed me and they said “well let me check this out because I have an app that will give us the answer.” I thought to myself “ok”.
Well low and behold I was right, and I knew this and the information came directly from my brain cells. Amazing things brain cells. Those babies can really remember things and process information and help you with all sorts of things and this all without an app!

Sorry, got side tracked there with my brain cells. My colleagues then asked me another question and I was right again and then they got a bit sarcastic and said that I must sit home every evening and read up on such stuff. I had to laugh at that and said they maybe should read something and not always be dependent on an app.

Everywhere you turn there are these bloody things.

Apps for weather – as if I can’t look out the window and see if it’s raining or not.

Apps for your wardrobe – it’s a sad day when I can’t figure out what to wear from the clothes that I have hung in my closet.

Apps for a coffee shop – what happened to asking someone where a good coffee shop is? An app can’t know this or do apps drink coffee secretly?

Apps to locate you – I don’t want everyone to know when I am sitting on the throne or is that important information for everyone?

And those are just a few. I could write a list that would be endless and that I don’t want to do.

I was actually thinking about creating a group called “ I want to keep my brain and not let it turn into an app.” Though I don’t think that many people would be interested in my group because everyone is busy with their apps trying to find out about the group and then only to be disappointed by saying that this group doesn’t have an app and that we use our brains and communicate with each other the old-fashioned way by talking to each other (those were the days!).

Try going through your day without an app and I bet you can have some fun.

Homeoffice and memories….

Another week at home and here I sit alone in my little office world and no real contact to my colleagues, but in trying times that’s how it is… No worries, I can look out my window and enjoy the sunshine and see that springtime is on its way… Really now just think about it, how many great spring days have you experienced up to now???

I can honestly say lots of them… Okay we won’t go to much into detail here about how many spring times, but it is more than 20….

I can remember as a kid, it was great to be outside… Okay we didn’t have internet, so we had to amuse ourselves the off-line way. Which to be honest wasn’t too bad!

The snow was melting, and air was fresh, and the sun was shining, and we were outside. Which to say the least wasn’t always the best thing either. When I look back, I think my mom just wanted me out of the house so that she could have a break from the kids, so to say….. I never really understood it but now looking back I do…. I guess when one matures you start to think differently.

Though I seem to have lost track of my home office and wandered off to the wonders of springtime.

Okay, I needed a break from the thoughts of my home desk job… Though I have never really worked so much from home and having this crummy office chair ( but better than no chair at all, and I am sure there are others out there with the same thought, too) is not the highlight of my office career.

Now as I sit, I can dream of how nice my real office chair is in my office and the contact with my colleagues in real-time… but I never thought much about it until now…. Have you ever thought about your office chair at home? Great little piece of furniture to say the least! A steady companion when needed and is always there with you… So to say something one should appreciate….

Have a great home office day and enjoy your office chair!

Stay home and stay focused

In these times of when the world is in a turmoil of problems we need to stay home, and it shouldn’t be seen as a bad thing, but as a way to stay healthy.

How many times have you thought about doing something around the house and have never taken the time to do something?

Well now is the chance to start those little in house projects and do those little repairs which have always been put off.

See the flip side of the coin, you have a chance to read a book spend a bit of time offline or when online you are not alone, with all the modern ways to communicate with friends and family using these modern methods.

Instead of meeting up for a coffee with friends in a café, you can meet-up with friends for an online coffee and a chat.

These maybe trying times, but they can be a reflective time too, so stay at home and stay focuses, and healthy

Stores and more……

I read that there are many people out there who have to work in the public eye and have read that they are not always treated nicely… to word it nicely!!

Why do people have to behave so aggressively or why do people have to be rude to each other??? There is no need to be like this and why??

Has society changed us soooo much that we have changed into an aggressive group of people in uncertain times??

There is one thing for sure one should appreciate those who serve the public and treat them with respect!!

Take care and think about respect for those who work hard for us in these trying times.

Re-decorating on a Budget

Most of us know that we have to keep an eye on how much money we spend on decorating or better said redecorating. And so, with the help of my trusty companion the internet to direct me in the right direction or soooo I hope???

Well, there I landed on a Website that really caught my eye. They used this sticky plastic stuff and transformed their kitchen in a jiffy, and it didn’t look too bad either…. Though when I went to my local DIY to check-out that product, it wasn’t as cheap as they mentioned on the internet. I guess that has to do location???

Then I wandered over to the paint section (This idea stems from online, too) The wonders of modern technology are amazing, but at the same time how much is true??? Anyway, there was this idea of using the color of “gray” throughout the house to reduce the need to clean so often…,. No comment from my side here!!!

Colors may hide the fact that I haven’t dusted in a week or so but the thought of it and the possibility that someone my stop by wearing white gloves and doing a “white glove test” on my furniture just is toooooo much for me!!

Image someone like that stops by your place and you aren’t prepared for the “white glove test” then what …. You got it!!! Posted immediately online and everyone in your neighborhood knows that you don’t dust regularly… That’s a OMG moment … to say the least and your reputation is ruined!!!
In that case then no gray tones in my house so as to hide the dust. NO THANK YOU!!!

But what I am not too sure about is using that sticky plastic stuff behind my stove top or sink… I cannot image that it would adhere to the wall that long, but than no one asked me.
I need to look more before I start to re-decorate… Another tip (hack) was vintage or like it used to be called “used furniture” or “antiques” …. All the same stuff at the end of the day. Only the price plays a role and what are you looking for.

Vintage furniture sounds like it could be somewhat special with a bit of a flare from when it was “in” back then when I was a kid or “antique” sound like it is something really expensive and really has that style that could be emulated in a country home.

This whole idea seems to be getting out of hand here with re-decorating and the more I look around the more I am happy with what I have. So, I can stick to my budget too.

Enjoy what you have and if you are re-decorating… Enjoy!

Good bye Christmas tree

It’s that time of the month to say goodbye to our beloved Christmas tree and take the decorations off it and store them away for another year until they are needed again.

There was the Christmas tree standing proudly in a room shining with decorations that brought a smile to your face every time you looked at it, and probably bring back memories of the past of how the tree looked as you were a kid and the great time that you had around the Christmas tree.

Does anybody even consider that taking the decorations off the Christmas tree isn’t really work, it is part of the whole package of Christmas. But most people complain that they have to take the decorations off the tree and put them away until the next Christmas season.

Somehow, now the space looks empty where my Christmas tree was standing. I come home and look at the space and think how lovely it looked with the Christmas tree standing there greeting me when I came home. But that is what is nice about it. The memories of the Christmas tree and again the next year putting up a Christmas tree before Christmas and the discovering the decorations that you may have forgotten about from the past Christmas, or where the decorations came from.

So, it is time to say in a short sentence: Goodbye Christmas tree!

Our kitchen table

I bet you never thought about your kitchen table, or have you? It is a piece of furniture that is simply there hanging around in your kitchen taking up space or used as a community meeting spot in the house.

That table is a place to sit around and enjoy a meal or celebrate something it is simply always there. Then there’s the time when we sit around the kitchen table to tell our tales of adventure or to cry our eyes out with tears of pain or sorrow our trusty table brings us together to plan our next vacation or plan our careers. The kitchen table is the center of the universe at home.
Think about it the kitchen table fits to your kitchen, it maybe modern, vintage or something you made yourself, but it is your kitchen table. It makes a statement about the people who live in your house. It endures things that no other piece of furniture in the house endures or puts up with.

The kitchen table is your desk, a place to eat, a place to sit around and watch someone cook… it is simply there. People pound their fists on the table, throw things on it or fold their laundry on it… The kitchen table is there.

Very seldom does the kitchen table change like other pieces of furniture in your house. We buy a new sofa, or dining room table, but the kitchen table stays where it is. It has found its place in the house and knows that it belongs to the house, and season for season it is there.

If a kitchen table could talk, I am sure it could tell a tale or two and maybe even surprise those who hear the tales being told. Or the secrets the table could keep and not tell anyone…(not that the table can talk, but if it could OMG!!)

But the best thing about a kitchen table could be the memories it brings back of carefree days as a child when coming home from school on a cold winter day to find a warm cup of cacao and the smell of fresh baked cookies and then surprisingly the warm cookies would appear on the table to be gobbled down…. Those are the wonderful memories of the kitchen table.

Sit at your kitchen table and enjoy it and the fond memories it brings back!!!
