Health Today

Yes, indeed health today isn’t like it used to be, as I have noticed while glancing at the online pages of newspapers and the sections about health………. Could be worrying actually, but I find it more like where do they find all that stuff?????

Most of it is old stuff trying to make it look modern in our digital world.

There is the article about kissing and what kind of kisser the person is…….. very important… but I wonder do you have to ask the person first to fill out a questionnaire and they check off how they see themselves as a kisser and then you can decide if you want to kiss them or is it….. You kiss and then each of you get your guidebook out and analyze how each other kiss and then take it from there… What amazing stuff!!!
How did I ever manage in my younger years without such booklets??? No one had a guidebook back then to tell us the right way to kiss or what the meaning of the kiss meant… You either like kissing the person or not. Simple as that!!

But there are serious topics too like a foggy brain and how to clear out the clutter…. I guess it is like cleaning out the attic on the weekend…. Sit down note that toooooo much info is floating around in your brain and then sorting out the bits and pieces of irrelevant information. Maybe like deleting stuff from your hard drive on your computer???
This got me thinking and I am not too sure how I can figure out if my brain is storing too much information, though maybe forgetfulness is the signal that says “ Hey, too much useless info in your brain, time to sort out.” Even with that thought …. What do I sort out??? I may need that bit of information at a later date and when I do and there is no internet connection…. Then what???
I would wish that I never sorted out that piece of information. Maybe, I can get a sort of external hard-drive to save the excess information for when I need it…. HUM, but then again I may collect to much new information and then the fogginess starts again… one endless circle that seems to never end….

Then there is eating your vegetables that are good for you….. Sort of like when you were a kid and mom would say “eat your carrots there good for your eyesight” or “eat your spinach so you will grow big and strong” …. Now all is written, saying the same thing that I have known since I was a kid….. Have modern moms forgotten about what their moms said about veggies?? I can remember those days with my mom saying those sentences and sitting there shoving the vegetables around the plate until they were cold and tasteless and still having to eat them because they were good for me…. I thought my mom was super strict when it came to veggies and other times cool….
But I guess now when I look back at it she knew what she was talking about…. Thanks mom! And that she knew that even when there were no computers too……… That is truly something!!!

As for health today… Take care of yourself, sort out your brain, eat all your vegetables and don’t forget your kissing guidebook before you make that next kiss……….

Comments……

I have recently taken up reading the comments people write after an article and find it rather amusing and almost better than the article itself… because there are people out there that seem to take what they wrote very seriously and when someone else comments on what they wrote (criticizing) them, and it leads to a form of a nasty exchange of words between two or more people who may not know each other…. What could be a nightmare is that the person is your neighbor and you don’t even know it…. Now that would be something!!!

Isn’t it so… when I would write my opinion about something that I can expect someone maybe to comment on it???? And if someone does I have to be prepared to handle what that other person wrote. At least in theory..

But then there in the space for comments people write little stories about something relating to the article… I wonder if they are trying to tell me something or trying to show off???? Of course I would not ask them because it is a proven fact that most things that are written and read by someone else are misunderstood and so I think I won’t write anything and just stick to reading the comments.

Though sometimes my fingers are burning to comment on something, but hey it is too much work for me to write something in that little space and maybe it too would be misunderstood, so I will steer away from it!!

I have even seen when someone writes that they like the article; there is someone out there who doesn’t.. It seems you just cannot make everyone happy when a person writes something…

I am just happy that I don’t work for a newspaper and have to write articles that people can comment on. That would make me cry, because when I took hours maybe even weeks to write something and I receive a load of negative comments … and then too maybe even get in trouble with the boss because that person saw that the public didn’t like what I wrote……. I better stay clear of that career path and stay where I am.!!! I feel better already….

I think to write well is a somewhat demanding job and I will leave that up to the professionals out there who can handle all the comments and I will continue reading all the comments…Thank you to all the people out there who write comments after articles… You make my life interesting!!

Computers without Compassion

Somehow computers have no compassion for their owners and think they can do whatever they want to. Devices can be so devilish can’t they?

Ever notice when you are typing away at something and accidently how.. Don’t ask me but touch the wrong key and all that great text that you had been writing seems to have disappeared for no reason at all. And I know in my mind and I am 100 percent sure that I did not touch any key that had to do with delete!!

I think computers sometimes want to make my life very difficult and then there is the language business… Which English do I choose??? My golly I am writing in English and English is English isn’t it… No not according to my computer… It gives me a choice of a couple to choose from. All I want to do is write a couple of simple sentences and not some literary work of art.

But, no my computer has to make some suggestions as to how the word/s should be spelt. Doesn’t my computer have a heart for me??? I say, NO it is just waiting for the moment when I turn my back and it will do some odd thing and my text will disappear or the font will change on its own and I am left at the mercy of this electronic device.

I always try to be nice to my computer and treat it with care and understanding, but I wonder sometimes does it have bad days too???

I think when my computer is having a bad day it seems to make a lot of suggestions as to how my sentences should be constructed, and believe me I do not like the suggestions either. I know what I want to say and I don’t what to write like a machine. I am a human and what to be creative and if my style of writing isn’t according to the computers thoughts… Too bad, sorry computer, but I can be a bit heartless to at moments! I press the button and say “ Sorry pla I don#t like your suggestion. Mine is better!! And look at my last sentence the computer is trying to play tricks on me and make it look like I can’t write…. I wanted to say: Sorry, pal I don’t like your suggestion.

Though computers do have a couple of advantages when compared to…… remember back then the thing called a “typewriter” Now that was really something. You made a mistake and you could not always delete it, but instead you had to get a whole new sheet of paper and start over. And of course you always made a mistake on something that was important that you were typing… or another famous one was you finished typing took it out of the typewriter and started reading it and notice in the middle of the page some spelling mistakes, and then what.. Start over again… But you knew how to spell back then because there was no spell check and your brain held a vast range of words that could be called-up automatically when needed.

Oh the fond memories of the typewriter, and the all time famous one I as a onetime high school student remember was the typing class for girls, were we had to learn to type so many words a minute.. I will admit that was not a strong point for me because I was defiantly not cutout to be a typist. But there were some girls in the class who were faster than light with their 60 words a minute and if I was lucky I managed 30.. So that destroyed my chances of become a career typist. Though I will admit I don’t regret it either.

Yes, times have changed and here we are typing away with spell check, sentence correction and language recognition all in one.

Enjoy typing!

Time For A Change

Four great words that we hear a lot nowadays, but who really changes???? Change can be so many things and what should change is always a question that requires a bit of thought before one changes…

Now with spring just waiting out there somewhere for us and all the Easter decorations are now being sold in the stores it can mean only one thing… spring is on its way and now it is time to start with the spring cleaning or at least the idea is good…
I have been thinking about the topic of spring cleaning and changing things around maybe or throwing some of my unwanted treasures out that you can barely see because they are hidden under an inch of dust…

Now that is something we collect whether we like it or not… our friend “DUST” and it seems that everyone collects it too and it is not just something that a certain group of people have either…. Dust sort of gives us all something in common; even if you don’t want to admit it!

Because I bet you have dust at your house too, just like I do!

I find nobody ever takes the time to think about that inch of dust that has accumulated on their books or nick-knacks and if dust could talk I am sure it could tell us some really interesting tales too. As dust is always presented as something that you must hate and always try to tackle it with the latest cleaning gadget or duster or whatever… Dust has turned into one of the most hated things in our households….

I dislike dust too just like the next person but I will not let it get the best of me either…. So, that means making some changes, but what do I change and what do I throw-out??? All that stuff even if it is a dust collector has great memories attached to it, and it is so hard to part with those loving memories… I feel like if I throw those dust collectors out I am throwing a part of myself away and that I can’t do… But it is time for a change. Yes, the change will be that I will dust and so then I can see what is under the dust. And after I can see what was hidden under the layer of dust then I won’t want to change.

I notice on TV that every house they show has no dust in it and wonder how do they manage that??? Do they have a team of people on call to tackle the dust right away as soon as it is seen???? Or the neighborhoods shown on TV too that are all shiny – do they have a dust patrol just waiting for dust and then go after it before it gets a chance to settle on something??? What happened to having something in common with other people…. DUST

I bought one of those things the other day that you can run over the table or such and the dust will stick to it like a magnet… Well, I guess after awhile the magnet part said the heck with it and seemed to let the dust lay there or just seems to make it move to another section on the bookcase… I guess dust just likes my house, so I will have to think of another change as to how to say good-bye to the winter dust and welcome the spring dust…. Always questions that need to be answered

Enjoy dusting !

Crossword Puzzle…

Did you know that the good ‘ol crossword puzzle is a 100 years old or at least that’s what I read. Has it been around that long???

I can remember my gran always doing those in the newspaper or those books that you could buy filled with those puzzles and she would sit there for hours or at least it seemed like it and she would do those puzzles. Whether she had the right word or not I’ll never know. Then my mom started doing them when she was bored… a great time killer back then before the internet , and it seems that people are still doing them, maybe it’s something that will last forever and not get lost in the hordes of game apps.

Crossword puzzles are fun and it always makes me think and try to find out which word belongs in the space and then connect it with the other words… Guessing at its finest!! Sometimes I haven’t the faintest idea what word they are looking for, but I keep on trying… my brain needs to know more words!!!!

It is unbelievable how many words you can store in your brain and remember how to spell them correctly too.. Somewhat of a challenge but again I’d don’t use a spelling app… good’ol memory at work!!! Just amazing if you ask me.

Those folks who make-up those crossword puzzles must take a lot of time to make them and how many people are making them??? That I would like to know… Any answers out there?? Plus, crosswords are in so many different languages too.. WOW!!! And how long do they spend on making each crossword puzzle, because some are easy and others are very difficult. Or is everything computerized today and the newspaper folks just press a few keys and a crossword puzzle is created with the crossword puzzle software??? So many unanswered questions… I need to call my local newspaper for an answer.

That’s enough about crossword puzzles, because I need to do the one in today’s paper now.

Enjoy your crossword puzzle today!

Reading a Nice Book

Reading is a great thing to do whether it be for pleasure or work… reading enriches our minds. But as it was recently brought to my attention that many adults today still can’t read properly.. A very sad state indeed.

Reading is fun and a person can learn to read at any age or to read better. It’s a bit like riding your bicycle- practice, practice, and practice until you get the hang of it.

Remember as a kid you practiced riding your bike until you got the hang of it and didn’t give up because you fell off your bike, you got back on it and tried again. Learning to read better is the same. Open up that book, see what is inside then start reading and those odd or strange words that are not understood can be looked up in a dictionary and there in that book the dictionary you can learn more words opening up a whole new world that one never thought about. Curiosity and success in one.

I can remember learning to read, and I couldn’t wait sometimes to get home from school to read a book that I was reading or to start reading a new book that I had gotten from the library… Those books launched me into a world of ideas, creativity and places that were far beyond my dreams. To put it simply -> It was great!

My first book in school and I am sure some of you out there had it too. Dick & Jane… Now that was reading at its finest! A happy family, a happy dog and what more did a young person need to launch you into the wonders of reading????
I thank Dick & Jane for enlightening me and the teacher who so patiently listened to us read out loud those wonderful pages from that book. The stimulus that it brought to my brain, saying “Hey, reading is fun!”

Reading today is so easy. You can read things online, ebooks , paperback books or hardcover books. The choice is endless and there is something there for every taste nowadays. People should take advantage of all these great ways to read.

Everyone regrets not having done something in their lives, but you never hear anyone saying “ If I had only read that book.” Maybe more people should think about reading and then we wouldn’t read such sad facts that soooo many people cannot read properly anymore.

So get out a good book and start reading and you will be surprised at how enjoyable a book really can be!

Take A Look At My Book

Yah, why not – take a look at my book. Reading is a great pastime for many and normally we read the book alone and enjoy every word that is written. Ok, that only holds true when you really enjoy the book and if the books not tooooooo interesting well; I just skim through it and that’s it and then it’s sent off into the world of used books that maybe someone else can enjoy????

But times are changing the days of relaxing on your sofa with a good book or Ereader( modern times) could be about to change when all your other friends have Ereader’s too. A little social reader network and you are all logged into one book reading together… now that’s what I call progress in the wrong direction!!!! When I read I like to read my book myself and not have 5 other people reading with me and this could be up setting too because we all read at different speeds, but then again when we all read the same book at the same time there must be a timer for each page and so everyone has say 2 minutes per page…. No day dreaming it’s……READING TIME!!!!

The days of lounging around are over!!!

Plus the great thing is you can add comments about what you just read and every one of your friends can join in too. This makes reading a whole new thing to do. You don’t just sit around with a dull book in your hand you can write your opinion or maybe even say that your thinking about making a cup of coffee too. This put a whole new spot light on the word “ READING”

But I do see some minor problems that could arise while one of your friends is the official book person and the rest are reading along with you. Now I am sure you have all experienced this at one time or another and don’t be embarrassed either…. But falling asleep on the sofa while reading.

Normally nothing to worry about; your laying on the sofa reading and you doze off for a bit. But now that you are in charge of the book that you and your friends are reading….. What happens???? They have to wait until you wake-up or what( this answer I don’t know)
There you are waiting patiently for your friend to wake back-up so you can read on. How could they do that, right when the book was just getting good… They fall asleep… some friend, if you ask me!! Call them up right-a-way to wake them up, so that you can carry on reading… cheeky if you ask me- falling asleep!

And another slightly annoying thought is… what if I read at a time when you don’t want to read; then what??? Though it could be that since it’s “MY BOOK” you have to read when I want too … no questions asked!!!
My book – My times
Then again, I think reading is a private thing and when I read I like to enjoy the book and not be interrupted or if I fall asleep on the sofa… who cares – the fond memories of reading alone…. those were the days!!!

A very positive point about such a device is that when your guy or gal is reading and you want their attention… forget the “old fashioned” way of talking to each other… NO, write a note so it pops-up in the book that their reading and I am sure if you write the right thing you will get their undivided attention and maybe hear some comments that shouldn’t be repeated here… if you know what I mean????

There my guy is reading away at one of his “guy” magazines and I would like him to help me. Normally, if I say something to him while he is reading and he says “ after honey, you know I’m reading” As if he thinks I’m blind!!!!

I don’t need to aggravate myself anymore. I just log-onto his book and write my message so he can read it… problem solved – or???? But somehow I don’t really see the situation getting any better than if I said something. If anyone out there has tired one of these deceives do let me know how it works when it comes to getting your partner to do something… Thanks!

Unfortunately, I think I will stick to reading my book alone and only share it with friends when I have finished reading it. But whatever way you choose to read is up to you… the main thing is that you enjoy what you are reading.

Enjoy reading!!

The Death of the Encyclopedia

A sad day has now come to our lives as I read yesterday. A company in England that has been printing encyclopedias for hundreds of years will stop printing them. Those wonderful works of art; that we will no longer be able to hold in our hands and enjoy its trove of information is coming to an end. This is heart breaking news and if I had enough money I would buy the company and keep printing those wonderful books.

I remember those wonderful books from my childhood. They supplied me with all the answers to my questions and filled my brain with ideas and the longing to learn more. My parents even up-dated our encyclopedias yearly, so that we had the most up-to-date information. And by doing that we weren’t be behind the times.

Those books helped me with many an essay for high school or my science project and accompanied me through college giving me the wisdom so I could graduate. I remember holding those treasured books in my hand with their leather-bound covers that smelt so nice and the richly illustrated pages explaining to me everything that I wanted to know and more.

Those lovely books stood proudly in the bookshelf at our house there on display in alphabetical order so whoever came by could see that we were readers and had an interest in things. And if I asked my parents a question they couldn’t answer they always said “Look in the encyclopedia and there you will find the answer.” And I did that and was always satisfied with what I found. Plus sometimes I found out even more and this quest for knowledge could be satisfied with those great books.

Now-a-days I only have abridged editions but I own them and I have a couple of others in other languages too, because you don’t find that sort of information anymore.

Things are getting lost in the era of the internet and if you aren’t connected to the internet you seem to be left behind. I ask myself “If you don’t have internet access; how do you get information about certain things?” If there are no encyclopedias anymore in the book form then what do you do? Or is society becoming a mass of people with stagnating brains who have no quest for knowledge?

Hold on to your beloved encyclopedias with it treasure trove of information and you may still even be able to use them to answer your question about something and it still looks good on the book shelf too!

Books & Language

Because I love to read (my App friends will hate me for this) I stumbled across a book about everyday America and its words and idiomatic phrases and because the book is in two languages it makes it more interesting.

But as I am sure many of you may not understand its contents, so I thought I would help you along here by listing these wonderful words and there meanings. Please note this is not a direct translation always and I do not use one of those internet translators either. Though I must admit they are good for a laugh because they never get the wording right.

Instructions for reading: American word first and the translation follows and if you have any questions do not ask because we do not have the answer either.

Apple polisher -> brown noser

Behind the times -> Toooo old and you better catch up on how things are today.

Billion -> Spending way too much money that you don’t have

Call it a day -> I have had enough of work and my colleagues for today and now what to go home and see what I can stir-up there.

A Diamond is forever -> Honey start saving your money if you want to marry me!

Facts of life -> I have no idea and probably never will. Ask someone else if you want the answer.

Girl Friday -> The chick the boss is having an affair with.

Holidays -> Something I have never heard of.

Jaywalk -> How to get hit by a car.

Keep your shirt on -> By all means if the guys good-looking he can take it off.

Phoney -> There’s a lot of that around today.

Think tank -> Over paid people trying to bid for more time.

Walk out -> Leave your partner for a newer model.

Women’s lib -> Does this exist and what is it?

So now after reading this you are an expert at American English and you do not need to use a dictionary – oh, sorry I mean an App to understand someone.
