Summer Time Legs

Exactly what you are thinking gals …. How do my legs look in the summer?? Sometimes we worry about are they looking good and is there any hair on my legs or did I forget to remove all the hair on them… These are the perils of showing your legs in the summer…. Another worry for me today!!

Well, it is said that you can use good’ol “peanut butter” to shave your legs with and that it will moisture your legs at the same time…… Now, after reading that I dashed out to the grocery store to buy a jar of peanut butter, so that I could shave my legs.

But before that I could enjoy a peanut butter and jelly sandwich that will give me the energy required to stake out on the adventure in my bathroom of shaving my legs with peanut butter. While making my sandwich it crossed my mind that peanut butter is a bit sticky and somewhat thicker than the other products available for removing hair on your legs….. But I knew that I was in for an action packed time after I finished eating my sandwich….. Bathroom here I come!!!

Of course I positioned everything next to the tub, so that no peanut butter would drip ( okay… peanut butter doesn’t drip) but plop onto the floor and then I step in it and that could be like stepping in doggy doddly in your back yard….. AND THAT I DON’TWANT!!!

I prepared my skin on my legs…. Summer legs are just a shave away…. I started to apply the peanut butter onto my leg… egit( I thought), but it promises great soft skin and good looking legs… I am always a gal that is looking for that sort of thing!!

Anyway, back to my peanut butter legs…. The bathroom smelt like one giant peanut butter cookie, but my legs didn’t look so good. But I knew once I shaved the peanut butter off my leg(s) I would be ready for summer… I even bought a new razor for my legs, because I didn’t want to use my old one from last season.

With my trusty razor in my hand I started or rather tried to remove the peanut butter from my leg… Though to tell you the truth it wasn’t that easy and the razor got clogged-up with the peanut butter after the first go, but I wasn’t going to give-up that easily !!!!

Determination is what is required… I carried on but after about 5 minutes things weren’t going the way they should be; easy to remove, smooth skin and removes the hair too( not at my place). I got a clogged razor, hair still on my legs and a bunch of peanut butter in my tub that I have to clean up too.

All these so called great ideas do not seem to be aimed at me, or it could be that I didn’t buy the right brand of peanut butter?? All I can say is that; don’t use chunky peanut butter because the chunks of peanuts may cause problems…. Maybe that is what I did wrong, because I always buy chunky peanut butter and not smooth.

Either way I don’t think I will be peanut buttering my legs again this summer, but instead buy a new jar and make myself my favorite peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

The Chocolate Bunny

An older post but I still like it even today with the memories of Easter.

sue romeiser

It was brought to my attention that Easter is just around the corner and hopefully the Easter bunny will find his way to my place with his GPS tracking system.

I can remember when I was a kid that was a great time of year and I believed that the Easter bunny visited our house not like kids now-a-days not believing in anything. And if the weather was warm enough we could search for Easter eggs outside; though I did have to be pretty fast because if I wasn’t our dog Cesar would find the chocolate eggs before me and eat them paper and all. The amazing part was that Cesar never got sick from eating so much chocolate with paper and if he did I never noticed it.

But I can remember one Easter that was really cold and the snow was still on the ground so that meant…

Sleigh Bells are Ringing

Oh there are only 10 until those sleigh bells can be heard outside your house and Santa will slide down your chimney and fill your stocking. I hope everyone has been good this year and not misbehaved…….

DSCF1674

Those were great times when I was I kid crossing off the days on the calendar and hoping that I wouldn’t do anything that would upset Santa Claus… I wanted him to stop by our house and so for me being good in December was on top of my list and not to forget the mile long wish list that I wrote too with all the stuff that I thought I needed.
When I think back to the things that I wished for it seems light years away because when I see what kids wish for today my toys seemed so dull and boring to them. But for me they were action packed with adventure and brought me and my friends’ hours of fun!!! I loved my toys

DSCF1675

There on my list when I was young were dolls and a baby buggy or some great piece of clothing to dress my doll in or a cassette with some cool music on it (Cassette – what’s that????) or there were the wonderful books full of adventure that took place in unknown places around the world – making my fascination run wild and letting me be part of something that I wouldn’t experience at home. Sometimes a dress would be under the tree that I could wear on Christmas day. Do little girls still wear those??? Santa was always so thoughtful. Or if I was really lucky there would be all kinds of chocolate stuffed in my stocking and the healthy orange( that was something that was always in it)…… oh those wonderful childhood memories!!!

I knew on Christmas Eve that when I placed the note beside the plate of cookies and a glass of milk on the kitchen table for Santa that there would be some great things in store for me on Christmas day…… Though sometimes I was soooooo excited that it seemed to take ages to fall asleep and my mom would always say “You must try to sleep or Santa won’t stop by.” How could she say that??? I was so excited about that jolly guy stopping by our house that I just couldn’t fall asleep; but sooner or later I did and would wake up and go down stairs to see a wonderfully lit Christmas tree and all the presents from Santa Claus under it. And Santa was such a great guy that he always left something for our dog Cesar too! So, I knew the Cesar must have been friends with Santa.

DSCF1673

So, I am just going to count the days now and make my wish list and hope that all my wishes come true even though I know that guy Santa Claus says I am toooooo old but hey, Who said you can’t enjoy the spirit of Santa at any age.?

A Christmas Tree- Yes, That’s for Me!

Well, Christmas is approaching at the speed of light and on Saturday is the 1st of December – where does time go???? A Christmas tree is at the top of my list this year and a lovely green tree in my living room all decorated and smelling good just makes you want to enjoy all the pre-holiday days before Santa Claus comes down the chimney.

My mom & dad always put up the Christmas tree the first weekend in December so that we could enjoy it the whole month long, and believe me we did!!! And it wasn’t only the two legged folks either but my faithful childhood companion Cesar. Now as a dog he seemed to view the tree with other thoughts on his mind and it wasn’t sitting there looking at it or taking in the lovely fragrance of the tree either…..

I bet you can guess – One year my dad decided to buy a huge Christmas tree about 8 feet tall and it was really big but then again we had a huge living room so no problems with the tree or at least that’s what my parents thought….. My dad so proudly positioned the tree in the stand and placed it in front of the window like every year, but this was the first Christmas for Cesar at our house so in a dogs mind what is a tree good for????

Right!!! He went over to the tree sniffed at it and lifted his leg and decided to water the tree. I don’t want to repeat here what my dad said to Cesar but you can imagine and it wasn’t very nice! I can remember my mom say to my dad “You shouldn’t say such things in front of your daughter.” My dad was so mad at the dog that he didn’t care and I thought “wow, now I know some new words that you shouldn’t say!”

So Cesar had some good points when it came to learning things you shouldn’t say. Thank you, Cesar you enriched my life and I will never forget you for that!!!

Anyways after he was banished from the house for awhile he could come back in because my mom felt sorry for him outside in the cold, and by now it was dark outside and like every year we had a special ceremony at our house for the official lighting of the tree with hot chocolate, music and the works…
It was a great time and we were all proud of our Christmas tree because we decorated it ourselves and it looked great with all those colored lights and sparkling glass decorations glistening in the dark….. For about 15 minutes at least! This tree was not the Christmas tree that brought good times too our house because once we were all seated in the living room looking at how wonderful the tree looked Cesar came in and had a look at the tree and saw his reflection in one of the ornaments and wham-o he attacked the Christmas tree and dragged it across the living room floor.

Now my dad was flaming mad to say the least!!!!! And I knew that I better get out-a there as fast as I can before I get in trouble. I was summand to take Cesar upstairs to my room and watch him. I thought then and there that was the end of my loving relationship with Cesar…. That brought tears to my eyes!!!

But what did my mom & dad do they cleaned up the mess. My dad fastened the tree to the wall and we had a big section of the tree where there were no decorations, so Cesar wouldn’t see himself again and attack the tree. That was a Christmas tree to remember and I loved that tree and that Christmas, and because of that tree I have always had a Christmas tree in my house ever since I’ve left home.

Enjoy your Christmas tree!

Great Stories are Abound

As I was just reading a couple of online newspapers and clicked on the sections with the amazing BUT true life stories about what people- mostly gals have experienced or what they do.
All I can say is that I seem to have a really boring life. I have never experienced such fascinating things and whether it be good or bad; I just seem to be left out and I don’t even have any gal friends who have experienced such things either….. I must have picked out the wrong friends!!!! So friends the sad truth is that I have to trade you in for a new group who are action packed with amazing stories…. I want action in my life!!!

I want action and gossip in my life not some normal everyday conversation about the latest fashion or my new cell phone or other boring topics. There was a gal who was addicted to eating burgers from some fast food restaurant and eats them for every meal. I really don’t know if I could eat soooooo many burgers because I am not a burger fan. Sorry folks!! But it is something to talk about and hey you make the newspaper.

Though the other poor gal who was changing the vacuum cleaner bag on her vacuum and found a pair of underwear from some other chick – Now that’s a reason to be upset with your guy… or?? Or did she place them there herself to get back at her guy for something???? The mystery of a great vacuum story is coming your way, so stay tuned for the vacuum cleaner saga in your area to find out what happens.

But there’s the chick who sold a relative’s house so she could get a lot of money. How she did this isn’t too clear and somehow I don’t think it would be as easy as they presented it. Somehow journalist today seem to have an imagination beyond belief, but then again they need to make a living too, so hey why not write some crazy articles about whatever they think would sell. I read it and had a good laugh.

Then there’s also some lonely gal who shares her place with one of those gray colored pigs. Now that could be a bit of a shocker if she met some guy and she said to him” let’s go back to my place” – there he is sitting in the living room while she is in the kitchen pouring 2 glasses of wine and the poor unsuspecting guy sitting there with other thoughts on his mind and is then confronted with a pig that crept up behind him… Now that could be a real date killer if you ask me!!!! So gals I would suggest forget having a pig as a house pet; just stick to the normal cat or dog to be on the safe side when you want to meet a guy.

Or to top things off the gal who spent all her money on horoscope calls and the other who spent a fortune on clothes… where do all these folks come from????? I have never even met a person who has experienced anything that would come close to all the articles about the goings on in their lives.
I want action and I hope this weekend that I can experience at least one thing that would make my life as moving as those gals in the newspapers. I will keep my eyes peeled and hope for an action packed weekend.

Enjoy your weekend even if you don’t meet such interesting people!

International Dog Day

Man’s best friend has its day today –International Dog day. Dogs are great animals and need to be respected too, so thank goodness there is a day devoted to dogs!

Our faithful friend who stands by us no matter what happens and cheers you up when felling down or that happy face and wagging tail that greets you when you open the house door. Those are wonderful things to experience and those of you who have a dog know exactly what I mean.

Unfortunately, my best 4 legged friend left us a couple of years ago. His name was Sputnik and he was a Jack Russell Terrier – who could be a little terror toooooo!!!! But his name fit him to a tee and when I think back sometime and wonder who was in charge – Sputnik or me? Though without a doubt I would say Sputnik was in charge with his canny ways and sense of humor (believe me he had one alright!). He seemed to have a way about him that he let everyone know if you were liked or not and if not , it could be hell at our house for you, and he would give you the feeling it was time to leave – and I can say it worked sometimes too.

But a great doggy memory of him was if I went out and forgot to shut the door to the living room, and you can guess where he was then…. Right on the sofa lounging away enjoying life -Until I came home! I knew he was sleeping on the sofa because when I came into the house he didn’t greet me and so I could sneak into the living room and find him sound asleep on the sofa , and of course he had made himself comfortable… only the best for Sputnik – not some hard dog bed!
You can imagine him lying there his head on a pillow the blanket positioned just so and he was lying on his back with all fours in the air snoring away in a doggy world… a sight to behold until I said “ Sputnik what are you doing on the sofa?” Well, if looks could kill then he could sure look that way as if to say I was the bad guy for coming home and disturbing him while he was having a nice rest on the sofa…. His look said to me that I was an emotionless soul and that if I don’t watch out I’m in for trouble!!!
It’s my house and my sofa but he never saw it that way. It was more like Sputnik’s sofa and his house and he could do whatever he wanted to. Though I do wonder to this day if he could have spoken –what would he have said to me? I am sure it would be something not worth repeating.

He was also a real lady’s man. Every Wednesday afternoon if someone was home to let him out; he would promptly make his way down the street for the weekly 3:00pm coffee and cake afternoon at an elderly ladies house where she always entertained some of her friends and who was also invited to come along??? Right Sputnik! Those gals loved him to death and he knew how to take advantage of it too. If he missed out on that afternoon he was in a bad mood for the next two days as if to say we deliberately wouldn’t let him go and have some cake and be the main attraction. But the day came when the elderly lady passed away and he it seemed he knew that there would be no more cake and walked passed her house with a sad look on his face for weeks… dogs can be really sensitive and I know Sputnik was too.

That’s enough about Sputnik. Enjoy your dog and remember the great times you had with him or her because they love you more than you think!

Camping memories

Summer is slowly coming to an end and the days are getting shorter and that got me to thinking about my times as a kid when I used to camp-out in the back yard in my pup tent with my friends. Those were the days.. Three girls and a Great Dane in a three man tent!

There we were professional campers who knew how to set-up such a tent and as 10 year olds we needed all the right stuff too in the tent. Plenty to eat and drink and of course it wasn’t healthy; a supply of good books and flashlights, and there we were ready for adventure that would come our way.

We were always a bit leery of a thunder storm because we always thought we may end up like one of those cartoon characters on TV who were charcoaled and their hair was standing on ends so, if there was any chance of a storm we darted for the house and camped inside…. Not as fun as outside because inside in the den my parents could see what we were up too and say when to turn the lights out. They were real party poopers!!!
Parents never seemed to understand the adventure in our camping and nor do I now when I think back on it.

Outside in the backyard in our tent exposed to the elements and to all the dangerous creatures that were lurking around in the dark just waiting to attack our tent. Those were scary times and then the owl made a noise and that made you almost jump out of your skin with fear, because we had been reading scary stories with our flashlights. Plus Cesar was there to protect us from the perils that were out there that we couldn’t see so never had to fear about the owl attacking our tent.

Once we got settled in under the blankets and Cesar lying at our feet waiting patiently for us to fall asleep and then he would creep under the blankets and push us all out from under them and we would wake up freezing in the morning while he was warm and sound asleep under the blankets. Cesar loved camping with us and as soon as he saw the tent he was the first one in it and you couldn’t get him out of it either. He knew a good thing!!!

It was sometimes a bit damp when it started to rain because the tent would leak if you accidentally touched the side of it and there I would lay with water dripping on me or I woke up damp because I touch the tent while I was asleep.

Those were great times and they are great memories too but then we got older and somehow camping in a little green tent with Cesar had lost its appeal and we wanted to be gown-up and not some babies who slept in the backyard in a tent. Cesar was sad too when we didn’t want to camp with him anymore because I know he loved the times that we all spent together in the little tent and how many times it collapsed because Cesar forgot he was in the tent an stood up taking the tent with him and we would scream at him for ruining our fun and he would just stand there wagging his tail as if to say “I want some fun too.”

Enjoy the last of the summer because it seems to be almost over for the year!

The smell of great food

Today brings back memories of my childhood where my mom would always cook-up a real great tasting meal for us and we would devour it in less than 30 minutes.

My mom spent hours in the kitchen preparing the meal. We never ate fish like other folks; we ate roast beef and boy was that good!!

I was always amazed at how my mom always managed to whip-up such a great meal and after slaving in the kitchen for hours still be in a good mood. Though one year her mood turned sour when Cesar our Great Dane dog did something that got him thrown out of the house for a couple of days.

Like always on this day every year my grandparents were there and my mom was busy like always and I had to stay out of the way and keep an eye on Cesar too. I wasn’t too happy about keeping an eye on the dog because I wanted to do other things like play outside. But since I was cleaned up for the day that meant staying inside whiling my time away with the dog.

Cesar and I were having a good time in my bedroom reading books together on my bed. He was a very attentive listener and knew good literature when he heard it, but somehow I must have dosed off reading to him and never noticed that he had slipped off the bed and left my bedroom and snuck downstairs into the kitchen where my mom was basting the roast beef -> bingo!!

My mom had placed the OPEN roasting pan on the oven door and had her back turned to the oven and how Cesar managed was beyond me. But he managed some how to get the roast beef out of the roasting pan without burning himself and came back up stairs into my room with the roast in his mouth.

You can image the scream that came from the kitchen from my mom!!!

And at the same time she screamed I woke up to find Cesar lying at the foot of my bed enjoying a roast. I was still somewhat a sleep but when my mom & dad came into my room I was wide awake and Cesar was pulled off the bed and the roast was taken away from him and I got in big trouble for not keeping an eye on the dog.

Poor Cesar had to stay outside for a couple of days in the cold.

My mom was really upset to say the least and so we were served bread and gravy with vegetables because the roast was already eaten.

I must say when I look back at that day, that it was somehow great fun and the food was good too. There was never a dull day at our house when I was growing up and my mom had nerves of steel to put up with such goings on. But there’s one thing for sure no matter how dire things were she always had a smile on her face and said a kind word about everything.

I wish everyone reading this a Happy Easter and enjoy your time with your family and friends!

The Chocolate Bunny

But I can remember one Easter that was really cold and the snow was still on the ground so that meant no looking for chocolate eggs outside. But that didn’t dampen my spirits because I knew the Easter bunny would come to my house and hide some chocolate eggs anyways.

Like always I got up early hoping to get a glimpse of the Easter bunny but no luck. The Easter bunny was like Santa Claus you never saw either of them but they always left you something great!

Well, on this cold Easter Sunday I thought I found all the small chocolate eggs and was enjoying myself eating them before breakfast. As they always said “start the day off right with a nutritious breakfast.” Well I was!!!

Anyways, the day went on and was over and Monday arrived. My parents never notice that I never found the large chocolate Easter bunny nor did I know anything about it. And since it was Monday my mom like always washed the cloths and once the washing machine was finished threw all the cloths into the wonderful dryer and you guessed it -> my chocolate Easter bunny was hidden in the dryer…

The kitchen seemed to fill-up with the lovely smell of melting chocolate and at first I thought “WOW, mom’s baking something” but quickly realized that wasn’t so. But I could still smell chocolate. My mom came into the kitchen and asked me what I was up to? I told her that I thought she was baking cookies but she said no and that I shouldn’t be in the kitchen.

I didn’t give-up so fast and asked what are you baking because it smells so good and then it dawned on my mom and she asked me “ Did you eat your large chocolate Easter bunny?” I said: No, I didn’t know the Easter bunny brought me one. My mom turned white as a sheet and opened the dryer to see all the freshly washed laundry covered in chocolate. I was devastated when I saw that and asked my mom why did the Easter bunny put my chocolate bunny in the dryer?

My poor mom was speechless but came up with a quick answer saying that the Easter bunny was afraid of Cesar and was worried that he would eat the chocolate bunny.
I was young enough to believe the story but my poor mom had to rewash all the cloths and scrape all the chocolate out of the dryer and never again was a chocolate bunny hidden in the dryer.

Childhood memories

Now that spring is here and the sun is shining I got to thinking about those wonderful spring days of my childhood. We spent hours outside and our parents never worried about us and we were free to do whatever we wanted to do. Those were the days!!

Every spring myself and 4 other kids would meet-up to walk to the pond to catch pollywogs ( I hope that I spelt the word correctly.?) in our pails. I was the supplier of the pails because somehow my dad always seemed to have an endless supply of ½ gallon pails for us and we were always grateful for that. We would walk about a mile and ½ to the pond and take our socks & shoes off and wade into the ice cold water and at the same time our feet would turn blue from the cold. But we never got sick from that cold water; we were tough kids back then immune to everything!

After catching our pollywogs we would then count them to see who had the most. I always had the feeling that I was counting the same ones but I was never really sure. Then we would march back home with our pails to show our parents the wonders of nature in our pails. It was always exciting because you had to maneuver your way through the woods and not drop your pail or else that was the end of your pollywogs and they then went to pollywog heaven.

My parents wouldn’t let me keep my pollywogs because my mom thought that was cruel. I never understood her because in the pond there were millions of those things and that’s no joke either! But when my mom said bring your pollywogs back to the pond I normally went over to a friend’s house that had an inflatable swimming pool and we would dump them all in there and feed them daily and watch their progress and see how they grew their legs and turned into frogs.

That was real action not any computer games, TV or such. We learned about nature first hand and spent many wonderful hours outside doing such great things.

Though I do have one memory from my pollywog days that got us in real trouble. We normally took the dog with us that belonged to an elderly lady who live near us. I think the dog was a bit of a handful for her because he was a boxer and loved to run around with us until that afternoon.
Like always we picked Brutus up on our daily hike to the pond to check out what was happening to the pollywogs.

Normally we weren’t afraid of anything except skunks!!!

We were always told to steer clear of them but on that day we were too busy with our pollywogs to watch what Brutus was doing and while we were wading in the water we heard Brutus let out a sort of cry and thought quick we have to see what happened to him and you guessed it right -> the skunk sprayed Brutus and boy did he stink!!!!!!

We thought we could wash him in the pond but that didn’t work and so we went to one of my friend’s house and sprayed Brutus with room air freshener thinking that would do the trick and you know how kids are we somehow forgot about Brutus stinking and brought him back home and said we would visit him tomorrow.

About an hour later my mom got a phone call from Brutus’s owner saying that Brutus stunk like a skunk and did I know anything about it? I couldn’t lie and said yes but pretended that I really wasn’t sure what a skunk was. Bad move on my part because that was the end of my pollywog’s that spring and we all were grounded for a week. But that didn’t stop us from doing the same thing next year -> looking for pollywogs.

We did that for years until somehow we all grew out of that and our interests changed and that was the end of the pollywogs.
