Time

Time you all know this word and probably think to your self what the heck is she going to write about here??? Exactly … Time… not the magazine but “time” itself.

There is “on time”, “in time”, “just in time” and so on. Have you ever thought about how many times a day you use the word time? I bet not, well I have because “time” is a good word, which means everything nowadays in society.

Looking back when I heard the sentence “My how time fly’s” I thought what a joke, and who ever thought up that sentence, was old fashioned. Okay, nowadays you would say “how vintage” …. I need to keep-up with the times. Right?

My how times have changed, too. Or Have they really changed that much? Not really in the past few years. But time is a precious thing which should be appreciated in some way or another. Okay enough philosophical nonsense here with good ol-time.

This time I was thinking about something else.

Like procrastinating is a great time killer and you know exactly what I mean here, too. We all do it when we don’t feel like doing something, but maybe some people are better at it than others.

Recently, since spring is here and the yearly calling of “Spring Cleaning” popped-up again…. Who ever thought of that is not my friend (or maybe they would like to pop by and spend some time clean-up my place?… If so, please let me know! Thanks) because this time of year is not for cleaning, okay maybe the windows so I can see what is going on outside, otherwise, things haven’t changed since the last season’s clean-up.

It seems the real change is the new spring wardrobe and this time I am not too sure what has changed??
But I was informed that this season’s sneakers should be “White”, because that is in… My golly that color has been around for a long time. The young sales assistant persisted on telling me how great the color white is for sneakers and that it was never in before.
I mean really, just by looking at me she could see that I was over (let’s say over 25). But it never occurred to her, until I said that “I think this color has been around for years even for sneakers.”
That comment didn’t go over too good with the young girl who apparently wasn’t trained to deal with customer like me. But who cares!

I left the shoe store and bee lined for the next shoe store to get a real overview of the current sneaker season situation… This time I needed facts and wanted to see a store that offered a larger range. There must have been at least 100 pairs of sneakers in white. How many feet do I have… Exactly 2, and when would I have the time to wear them all?

It was/ is only the spring collection and not the summer or any other season!!! Though I will admit a couple of pairs caught my eye, but not enough to buy them… But what was good after I left the shoe store there was an ad from a well- know online store; which had written on its “electronic billboard” (energy saving-Ahoy!) Back to the wording: They advertised: “Sneaker”

Don’t we normally wear sneakers? Or am I missing something here this time or is it so that people only buy one sneaker now and the other foot is without a sneaker??? I would like an answer to this from the online platform, please!

After reading that I had to laugh to myself about how many more times will I see this ad? Don’t answer!
Now a time later it was/is spring sale time for all these great sneakers and other items which I am not too sure who will buy them?? We don’t even have summertime yet.

Boy how seasons are flying by. I need time to think about all this and wait for the next time the season’s fashions change again.

Now it is time to bring this to an end. Enjoy your time with whatever you do!

The Replacement

Sometimes life changes and things get replaced around the house and no one ever takes into consideration the many years of faithful service the appliances have brought into your life let alone the joys and maybe even the sorrows too.

A good friend of mine informed that she will be buying a new stove for her kitchen. Sure, you’re thinking big deal or great, it’s about time she did. But have you ever thought about what that stove did for her in the past? I bet not! Or even your own stove that you own.

Well this little event got me thinking about my stove, and I will admit that it is a trusty friend in my household and a real lifesaver too. Though I will admit we have had our stressful moments together too, when (I hate to admit it) when I forgot something cooking on the stove top and then there is the smell of something burning or boiling over and I think something nasty and think “great, it’s ruined now”! I am sure you all know this feeling????

But, there are the great smells too, that smell of something wonderful cooking on the stove top and you can’t wait to eat it because it smells so good and the same hold true for the aroma of something yummy baking, roasting, grilling or whatever coming from the oven.

My oven and I have had some challenges through the years to put it nicely. Like the time the oven seemed to shrink because the turkey I bought was to big for the oven. That darn oven seemed to shrink in size over night and I didn’t even notice it. (my gosh I was a bit upset to say the least!!!)

Or there was the time the oven seemed to develop a nasty phase and whenever I popped something into the oven it burnt for whatever reason… Okay, maybe I wasn’t paying attention or was distracted, but I am sure to this day that it was the ovens fault! Or the time (some of you may have experienced this too??) you pop the dinner into the over to cook for your guests who are coming over and for some unexplainable reason the oven isn’t turned on when you check the food one hour later and wonder what has happened here????? A mystery beyond belief……

Then there’s the nasty trick that the oven tries… You pop the food in the oven and somehow the oven gets tooooooo hot and the food burns and bellows out smoke and has a smell of burn food… That is an OMG moment!!! Now what ?????

But through all those trying times with its ups and downs my stove has been a faithful companion in my life and I think we should all be appreciative of the appliance even when it is being replaced, because the old stove also has memories attached to it too and they can be many happy moments in our life and we never really take the time anymore to think about all those great times!

So, before you pop something into the oven or cook something on your stovetop remember those great times associated with your stove. Have a great time cooking !!!

What to write and what to say…..

Have you ever thought really thought about the sentence “ I have nothing to say?” I bet not… Many people have nothing to say but never say that sentence and instead repeat the same old story thousands of time until the listener says something. I have nothing against hearing things a couple of times but after that it gets boring and I would rather hear “ I have nothing to say or there is nothing going on in my life at the moment”…. Okay I know it sounds like you could be a boring person, if not seen as a loser…

Nowadays, we have to be active, always on the go and able to show off something cool going on in our lives… When do these people take a break or have a life??? Sometimes I would love to ask these people and I wonder if they are happy with themselves too??? Anyone out there know the answer??

Writing too is an issue, what to say and what to write about that will maybe interest someone out there and not bore you or put you to sleep while you are reading… Then I am a real loser or bore at best!!! But who cares, I’ll just jabber away here and write about whatever pops into my mind…

Okay… And not worry about my summer figure, losing weight, make-up tips or how I will look in the latest fashion fad or the other must haves that others think I need in my life…. Because these are the most common tops that are repeated each day and year for us gals to read about and somehow that has become boring for me to read about… Life is how it is and I will carry on with how things are.. Bad figure, out of date fashion( okay..Vintage now), and vintage make-up tips and it still seems to fit in somehow… The surprising facts that I would have never thought about until I started writing here… Inspiration comes in various ways….

So, inspire yourself today and have fun and don’t worry about being a bore either!!

A little memory ..

Winter is still here and many of us as adults cannot wait for it to be over, so you won’t have to shovel the snow, worry about getting to work on time or simply being snowed in… The view of snow changes with age as many people have told me. I like snow, but still only a certain amount of it, so that makes me as bad as the next person….

But as a kid I never thought about snow that way.. it was simply great no worries, no shoveling, or at least limited shoveling… toboggining, and so forth. A day outside in the snow was simply great to a certain extent!!

Or to top that, a snow day… No school and I could stay home for the day because there was too much snow… A real drag from my mom , because that put a damper on here daily routine to say the least, and no time for coffee with friends, talking on the phone, NO… I was there and demanded attention or to be entertained would be a better choice of words. No daytime TV, no computers… Just simple everyday amusement… Go outside and find something to do, was my mom’s motto and take care… Of what I never knew?? and nor did I ask either….
I just got dressed and went outside…

Though getting dressed to go outside in the snow did require some planning and time too…. Firstly, was my snowsuit dry from yesterdays excursion outside and were my boots dry??? Major concerns for me when I really needed an excuse why not to go outside… And my mom seemed always to be prepared with dry clothes and boots, so as to set me on my way in the perils of winter…. I must say I was not the only kid around in this position… All moms sent their kids outside no matter what the weather conditions were and we were outside for hours running around getting up to something but nothing bad…

Then after we were turning blue from the cold we all seemed to be magically called inside so as not to freeze our back-sides off and have something warm to eat and drink before the next artic expedition in the afternoon… Where we could spend another couple of hours killing time, because we were too tired from the morning round of activities and all the moms were the same…. Kids outside now !!! Then we walked around, hung out in someone’s garage so as not to get too cold or hoped to find a friends mother who felt sorry for us out in the sub zero temperatures ( not really true but it felt like that.)
No sympathy and so we dragged ourselves around until we could go inside for the day and then the great question “ Did you all have fun outside together?”… Really now, standing or walking around in the cold was not our idea of having a great time together and nor did mothers understand this…

But after peeling off all the layers of clothing and looking as though I had been to the artic and back I simply appreciated being inside… And the thought of the next day’s adventures in the snow seemed like a great idea too, because it was something we looked forward too.

Enjoy the snowy weather no matter what age you are!

Leftovers again……

There you have it… the big day is over and there is all this food leftover and what to do with it…. OMG… but like every year there are the leftover meals from what is left-over from the 25th and like always the recipe ideas are in abundance online as to what to do with your leftovers.

When I think back on my childhood, my mom didn’t have internet, but somehow knew what to make out of the left-overs from our Christmas dinner, maybe the meals weren’t as exciting as what is around for ideas today, but I must admit what my mom made from the left-overs tasted really good and we never complained either… Thanks “mom” for all the great tasting Christmas meal leftovers!

But the all time favorite back then was left-over turkey on bread with gravy and what ever else was left-over from the meal…. Maybe some of you remember that or still eat it… That was just as good as the meal on Christmas day, if you ask me…. But you didn’t! And the great thing about it was that it was easy to make too…. Not too much work for my mom, who had worked so hard on the previous day in the kitchen preparing everything.

This is a tradition too, but most people don’t see it that way because everyone is too preoccupied with the 25th of December and aren’t thinking about the tradition of eating leftovers… A tradition in itself…. And I think there should be a “ National Left-Over’s day the 26th of December”!

So, for those of you out there going to eat left-over’s today…. All I can say is “ enjoy yourself” on National Left-Over’s day!!

Another year again with Decorations

There you have it… November is here and Christmas decorations are in all the stores again…. But nothing is new, so I decided to take a look at my collection of decorations that seem to have collected themselves through the years… Maybe you know this phenomenon at your house too???

I see all these tips (life hacks) as to how to organize my decorations and sort them out and so forth and the most annoying are the strings of lights that seem to magically tangle themselves throughout the summer months. How this happens is beyond me…. Really baffling when I think about it (maybe better not to think about it..)

Of course, with good intentions I bought all the organizational material needed to sort out my chaos of decorations, but the thought of them not being placed in their beloved box that I bought them in, that is held together with adhesive tape brings tears to my eyes… that carton or better said the box for the glass tree decorations has a history to it and just looking at the faded price sticker reminds me of the day I bought them… How can an organization box with everything crammed neatly into it give me the same feeling???? No, it can’t!!!!

And there before my eyes are the strings of lights, some brightly colored and others only with white bulbs tangled up overnight by themselves, because I know I placed them properly in the box at the end of the Christmas season, plus which string of lights still works or which string has burnt-out bulbs??? A puzzling question indeed!!!
This is a job that needs to be tackled right away before the magic moment of using them in December… Nothing worse than a burnt-out bulb to ruin the look of your Christmas tree or the fact that the whole darn string of bulbs don’t work because one bulb is burnt-out and the lights are already on the tree… I know the lights worked before I hung them on the tree ( I tried them out first and everyone light-up) I am sure you know that problem too????
Then there are the yearly broken decorations in the box…. How that happened is beyond me??? The OMG effect is best in this case is my motto..

When confronted with a broken glass decoration is care of the utmost importance; not because you could cut yourself, but because maybe the decoration has memories attached to it and so depose of it with care when saying good-bye to it… Good bye dear decoration….we had many years of great times together!!!

One more thing are those plastic decorations that are a dime a dozen but do not stand a chance on my tree, because they just don’t have the shine and shimmer that glass decorations can give you on your tree….

But what I really wanted to say is: Sort out your decorations carefully and enjoy the moments when doing it, because there can be great memories attached to some decorations and we seem to forget that in our busy lives…….. Have fun sorting out!!!

Upset not me….It’s tea time!

For years it was always frowned upon the thought of an afternoon tea… Coffee was in and now good’ol afternoon tea is back and what to eat with it …. cakes galore and more!

Okay, if you are working, I wonder if my boss will give me a break at afternoon tea time,so that I can sit back at my desk and enjoy a cup of tea??? Not a bad idea really, maybe after that “tea break” I’ll be more productive and concentrated too…. or on the other hand, want to take a nap, because I ate something…. A yah… that’s tea time!

But if I am not mistaken it did actually take place at one time… Afternoon tea, and tea was served and little sandwiches or cakes were eaten. Though I am sure you needed the right teapot and cups to do this correctly and not just any old teacup or teapot… and fresh water for the kettle is also important… I did my homework!!

While looking at the pictures that were shown for the afternoon tea time were really impressive, but I am not sure if I baked all those little finger cakes that mine would look that good as in the picture, but I am sure that they would taste good; you would just have to imagine what they should look like.. then everything is fine.
Then there is the thought of how to serve the tea… with milk, sugar, or with lemon or only sugar and so on. Lot’s of choices for just a cup of tea, and the tea should be hot too.. tea time seems to be a lot of work.. I think I need a tea break here to be able to manage to write about tea breaks…

Back from a quick cup of tea and thinking about tea time again… Did you have time for a quick cup too; I hope so….

I remember back then , when things were not going to good( before the “meltdown”) times… It was always said ” Have a cup of tea and you will feel better”…. Maybe all those people out there having these modern day “meltdowns” should sit down and have a cup of tea and then they would feel better… take time and enjoy the cup of tea and think about things.

I am glad to hear that tea time is back and now we can take time to enjoy life with that good’ol cup of tea! Enjoy your tea too!!

My Clothes ……My Closet….

Now there is something that may or may not be a hit with us gals… the clothes reminder. There hidden in my closet in my clothes is a little gadget to remind me that I haven’t worn that piece of clothing for a long time and that it is high time to wear it again…. There you have it! My clothes are telling me what to do and that is just a no go in my life!!!

After reading that article; I stood in front of my closet to see how many things that I haven’t worn in ages…. Okay there are some pieces of clothing that have been in my closet for ages, but now they are vintage, and the possibility that I might wear that garment again is possible …. Or not???

Anyway, I want to have control of things!!! I mean really our closet is our dearest thing; there in that closet is our life, our treasures or even for some their sorrows but it is ours and the clothing, shoes and other great things we own are there too. And when we feel a bit nostalgic we can look at all the great things we have stuffed in our closet. But when there is a tag on our clothing to tell us we haven’t worn that garment in a long time and to sort it out…… Then what???? No more fond memories, no more just staring at our things…. NO…. Now just looking at a closet full of functional garments that are to be worn or else…..GOOD BYE!!

The cold hearted truth of the closet….. This idea just makes me want to cry when thinking about it and maybe some of you gals out there feel the same way???

For guys it may be a great thing because they seem to be more practical….. I guess??? There are some unanswered questions there too.

I had to take a short break here from writing and looked again in my closet and tried to decide what I would sort out and say good-bye too…. It was like saying good bye to a dear friend…. You have done so many things together and experience some great things together too and then to say good –bye brings tears to my eyes… I am sure some gals feel the same way, but then again there are those garments that you can be cold hearted too and say “Hey,I don’t want you anymore”…. Easy as that and the bad memories are gone in a flash that were associated with that garment. Though it is true not all pieces of clothing can be saved forever but we still need a bit of a choice as to what to wear or at least I do.

The closet is a place not to be tagged but to be a place for us gals to put our beloved clothing in……Enjoy what is in your closet, because that is where your treasured clothing is!!!

Wonders of Washing Socks

It seems to be an amazing fact when there are scientific studies done on the loss of socks in the laundry…. I mean really now is this really something new or hasn’t it been around for years??? The bewildering facts of doing the laundry….

There you have it! Socks seem to take on their own life and wander off somewhere in the process of doing the laundry, but where do they go and where do they end-up??? This is mind boggling and the thought alone that one of my socks could just disappear is even worse then I thought…. OMG!!!

So, as an experienced person who does the laundry at our house, I got right down to the bare facts and looked at all the socks lying around the house, now believe me that is a lot of pairs or not pairs of socks…. Okay the not pairs seem to be singled out for polishing shoes and such, so I don’t feel so bad, but the others that just took-off ; well if I ever find them I will give them a piece of my mind!! Believe me….. They will wish that they never snuck out of the laundry basket!! Life can be hard for socks or so I think????? Maybe that is why they take-off and disappear????

HEADLINE: Socks on the run from washing machine

I got thinking about the life of a sock….. Okay, not very exciting really and if the wearer doesn’t have clean feet…. Ouch!!!! Not for me, and even if the wearer does have clean feet, just imagine caged up in a pair of shoes all day and not seeing anything and then in the evening taken off and thrown in the laundry basket… what kind of life is that???? Or maybe the person wears the same pair for a couple of days ….oohh and the poor sock may suffer even more then. These simple facts could be the reason why socks go astray. Though I am sure there could be other reasons too…

There it is laundry day (oh there are these thingies that keep your socks in pairs… personally I have never used them) and there are lots of tips too (or nowadays: life hacks). I’m old fashioned … sort the laundry out and throw it into the washing machine and of course after the machine is running there always seems be that odd sock that just springs up out of nowhere…. I could scream, but that won’t help either. Throw the gd sock back into the laundry basket and wash it next time if it is still there???? Sounds so adventurous to me.

But have you thought about your washing machine? I bet not…. Whether, front or top loader there within it is the drum with all its little holes hiding the secret workings of the machine itself. Maybe the socks get scared and take off through the holes or jump out of the machine when my back is turned getting the detergent. This I will never know …. But the mystery seems all so fascinating and I can understand that scientific studies must be done. Yes, mathematics could give us a statistical answer but which person doing the laundry is going to be thinking about statistics when turning the washing machine on…. Not me!

I use another method… Thanks mom!!! Put the socks together (knot them together- not tightly) when you take them off (matter of training yourself) and then when laundry day comes around sort out the laundry and when the socks pop-up only unknot them when you are going to put them into the washing machine and BINGO no lost socks and the mysteries of stray socks can be solved in a flash and all that without statistics or the such.

So, next time you take-off your socks and want to wash them; take time and see that they are in pairs to avoid that unavoidable runaway sock problem….

The Essentials

Those two words you read everywhere nowadays „ The essentials“; either for the house, your life or whatever you need „ the essentials“or your life isn’t complete! The ceiling may cave in any second now without my essentials ….. ahhhhhh

I got looking at all these essential things that I supposedly need, well to be honest those essentials are not so essential to my daily life and all those life hacks which are the old things grandmothers/ grandparents once told us or showed us, and so I haven’t learned a thing but it is an essential life hack. The word usage is interesting too. Years ago wasn’t it called: Tips of a better life or money-saving ideas or how to do things better and easier, and even save time in the kitchen with these handy tips…. Nowadays everything is a hack… but was does “hack” really mean?
I looked it up and found many meanings and its use as a word, but still the use of the words seems to have changed… wasn’t it one time “inventive or ingenious “ if you did a certain thing with just a few necessary things to repair something???? And what is” essential”… isn’t that from a point of view and not from trying to sell me something???

With “hacking” I’ll use it for hacking vegetables or being successful at something and not for the other things the word is associated with. And for “ the essentials” I think I have them all and if I don’t well I will survive without them, because I have so far and didn’t know that I was missing the essentials …… whatever they are. But with the Sunday ads in the newspapers for all those essentials that are missing in my life I just don’t know where to start????

I looked at the first flyer for everything for the house…. What do I need??? Or do I even have space for any of that stuff…. Good question! Then the next flyer for stuff at the drugstore…. How many deodorants do I need or bottles of shampoo, and then there’s the grocery store flyer with all the essential stuff too, but do I need to buy all that stuff and some of it I don’t even eat either ; now what???

But everything is essential, so I put the flyers down and started reading the newspaper and there I was confronted by a full-page ad for a new suitcase (an essential) if I was traveling…. It would be an OMG to be seen with a suitcase that was say 5 years old and what would the neighbors think if they saw that too…. There I am walking out to the taxi and everyone is pointing at me and sees my 5 year old suitcase and they all know that I was too cheap to purchase the essential one in the news paper ad….. All I can say is “that would be a bad suitcase day!”.

I turn the page of the paper hoping not to be confronted with another essential….. my hands are shaking and I feel nervous with this thought , but there on the next page I only have articles to read…. I feel better but I know when I turn the page that another essential will be staring at me and then what….. Close the paper and throw it on the floor or quickly turn the page hoping that that essential is not an essential for me…. I will chance it and so sorry I have to finish here, because I know there are some essential things and articles in the paper that I want to see or read!

Enjoy your day… with or without the hacks and essentials!
