Homeoffice and memories….

Another week at home and here I sit alone in my little office world and no real contact to my colleagues, but in trying times that’s how it is… No worries, I can look out my window and enjoy the sunshine and see that springtime is on its way… Really now just think about it, how many great spring days have you experienced up to now???

I can honestly say lots of them… Okay we won’t go to much into detail here about how many spring times, but it is more than 20….

I can remember as a kid, it was great to be outside… Okay we didn’t have internet, so we had to amuse ourselves the off-line way. Which to be honest wasn’t too bad!

The snow was melting, and air was fresh, and the sun was shining, and we were outside. Which to say the least wasn’t always the best thing either. When I look back, I think my mom just wanted me out of the house so that she could have a break from the kids, so to say….. I never really understood it but now looking back I do…. I guess when one matures you start to think differently.

Though I seem to have lost track of my home office and wandered off to the wonders of springtime.

Okay, I needed a break from the thoughts of my home desk job… Though I have never really worked so much from home and having this crummy office chair ( but better than no chair at all, and I am sure there are others out there with the same thought, too) is not the highlight of my office career.

Now as I sit, I can dream of how nice my real office chair is in my office and the contact with my colleagues in real-time… but I never thought much about it until now…. Have you ever thought about your office chair at home? Great little piece of furniture to say the least! A steady companion when needed and is always there with you… So to say something one should appreciate….

Have a great home office day and enjoy your office chair!

Our kitchen table

I bet you never thought about your kitchen table, or have you? It is a piece of furniture that is simply there hanging around in your kitchen taking up space or used as a community meeting spot in the house.

That table is a place to sit around and enjoy a meal or celebrate something it is simply always there. Then there’s the time when we sit around the kitchen table to tell our tales of adventure or to cry our eyes out with tears of pain or sorrow our trusty table brings us together to plan our next vacation or plan our careers. The kitchen table is the center of the universe at home.
Think about it the kitchen table fits to your kitchen, it maybe modern, vintage or something you made yourself, but it is your kitchen table. It makes a statement about the people who live in your house. It endures things that no other piece of furniture in the house endures or puts up with.

The kitchen table is your desk, a place to eat, a place to sit around and watch someone cook… it is simply there. People pound their fists on the table, throw things on it or fold their laundry on it… The kitchen table is there.

Very seldom does the kitchen table change like other pieces of furniture in your house. We buy a new sofa, or dining room table, but the kitchen table stays where it is. It has found its place in the house and knows that it belongs to the house, and season for season it is there.

If a kitchen table could talk, I am sure it could tell a tale or two and maybe even surprise those who hear the tales being told. Or the secrets the table could keep and not tell anyone…(not that the table can talk, but if it could OMG!!)

But the best thing about a kitchen table could be the memories it brings back of carefree days as a child when coming home from school on a cold winter day to find a warm cup of cacao and the smell of fresh baked cookies and then surprisingly the warm cookies would appear on the table to be gobbled down…. Those are the wonderful memories of the kitchen table.

Sit at your kitchen table and enjoy it and the fond memories it brings back!!!

Twinkies are Leaving us Too?

Another sad day has come upon us this year 2012 and like all the other sad things that will be leaving our lives this year is the Twinkie that has maybe decided to join the ranks too. I could cry now… my childhood memories of those sweet Twinkies is fading away too.

Twinkies were a main staple in my lunch box in elementary school and they held the power that you could control your friends with because my mom put a Twinkie in my lunch box and my friends moms didn’t. My friends would sometime drool just looking at me eat my Twinkie and of course I had to exaggerate a bit as too how much I was enjoying it. Or there were kids who wanted to swap something from their lunch box for my Twinkie. But I was not going to be weakened by the temptations of other forms of food…. No way!!! Twinkies were my favorite snack!!!

That sugary thing gave me endless hours of energy and no one ever thought about the amount of sugar in it or if it would make me hyper active or cause cavities… No sir; Twinkies were just another enjoyable snack that you bit into and enjoyed the flavor of the thing. But as I got older I must say I wasn’t always a loyal Twinkie fan there was another enticing chocolate treat called ( can’t remember the name) but it was round and chocolate with a creamy filling between 2 chocolate cake like whatever and coated with chocolate and that too was full of nutrition that wound me up for hours too, and let alone thinking about the calories in it….. My waistline is expanding at the thought… over the lips and on the hips!!!

But those chocolate things just couldn’t compete with the Twinkies in my mind! Twinkies are and were one of a kind in taste and that was what counted… Who in their right mind could let such a great treat pass away????

Those fond memories associated with a Twinkie are priceless and so are the hours I spent with my friends eating them too. My mom would bring home a package of Twinkies and we could devour them in minutes if my mom let us, but of course she always said “Not more than one dear because we’re having dinner in an hour.” My thought was who cares about dinner I want to eat the Twinkies and not some boring meal that my mom would cook. I thought back then that moms have no idea about life and what is really good to eat even though I knew deep inside me that she meant well. I saw it as just trying to spoil my fun!

So Twinkie manufactures, don’t let the Twinkie pass away… That was my childhood !!!

Time & Memories – 2

As I am feeling a bit in the mood to reminisce about the times in my childhood; I was also then reminded of the new colored Television set. Now that was a moving experience for many I am sure.

We had a small black and white TV which sat on a table in our living room and on another table there was the record player. a gigantic thing but it was called portable. What was portable about it I really couldn’t tell you. My parents loved their records and would listen to them for hours and if I was lucky I could listen too one of mine for 30 minutes at the most. That seemed unfair to me but I had no other choice until the day came when my parents proudly announced that we were getting a new TV and record player all in one.

Remember the kind where you could lift the top up and see the record player and on the other side was the TV set ( the home entertainment system of yesteryear)Though I know it had another name but what it was I cannot remember .

Again my mom made a fuss about this too. Though the good thing was, was that I was getting the portable record player for my bedroom( the thing took-up a lot of space in my small room, but I had a record player for adults and could now play my collection of 5-45’s and 2 LP’s. I was in heaven and so were my friends too because we could listen to our records for hours and have time to dream. Wow – that was life!

The new “colored TV” was delivered while I was at school and so when I got home that day my mom was already enjoying the new TV & record player console. I was beside myself when I saw it.

Just imagine solid wood ( not plastic like now -a- days)and it must of weighed about a ton and a nuclear explosion wouldn’t have even put a dent it because that was a solid piece of furniture that was built to last forever.

The parts were not all plastic either. A real glass TV screen which had to warm-up a bit before you got a good picture and there was a knob that you could turn to change the channel or a knob for the volume.(remember those were the times before remote controls)And guess who was in charge of getting-up to change the channel or volume when I was watching TV with my parents? You guessed right – me!

I was not allowed to turn the TV on when my parents weren’t there or else- that would be like committing a major crime, because you never know what could happen. (That was my mom’s motto) Plus I didn’t stand a chance to watch TV when they weren’t around because the whole TV and wood casing would retain the warmth and you got it – bingo caught watching TV even when I had turned it off 5 minutes before they came into the house. Believe me that was no fun – 1 week no TV as punishment for sneaking a chance to watch TV when they weren’t around.
Hey that’s life and it was worth every minute to be alone in the living room and to watch color TV!

Though this entertainment system took on a dimension of it’s own in the eyes of my parents and it (TV & record player)had to be welcomed into the world, so that meant a cocktail party and have friends over and take time to look at our new addition.
All my parents friends showed up and the men looked at the technical aspects of such a device while the women at the same time discussed the decorative aspects of this and at the same time listening to records being played on the wonderful record player. Everyone was happy and had time to enjoy life though my happiness that evening was ended abruptly when I had to go to bed because I wasn’t allowed to stay up so late.

That TV & record player supplied us with many hours & years of happiness giving us time to be together and share the company of one another.

Enjoy the company of each other this gives you a fond memory that will be cherished for sometime.
