Techi Talk

Today with all these new techi computer words floating around I wonder what else they could mean besides there computer meaning and as a gal who isn’t always up to date in the world of computers and only recently being exposed to wonders of modern technology, I must say I was fascinated as to how I could translate those words into totally everyday means………

So, I thought I would give it a go and maybe you can relate to some of the translations too……..

API – always people interfere(You know the problem when you are trying to do something.)
Boot – sorry I only have one and lost the other boot. Bad if the weather isn’t so good outside.
Cloud- look up into the sky and see the wonders of nature
Chrome- Normally used as a plating for metal, but what do I know……..
Dialer – wasn’t that the thing on the telephones from yesteryear??

FAT – Find any things? This is good when looking for something
Gnome – that thing that was popular one time that lots of people had in their gardens or on their lawns…..
Hardware – something you do need when doing repairs around the house, and then you need to go to the hardware store to get the stuff you need to fix-up whatever you are fixing-up……. Makes sense????
HTML – How that much liked??? There you got it when wanting an opinion; just ask HTML….
Key- Something I need to get into my house
Laptop – That word is ,well how can I say it…… Sounds dated for computer words

Malware – That can happen when you get moles in your garden and they ruin everything, then you got a serious case of Malware!
MSP- This is a word to watch-out for ( Many serious problems) because it does direct one in a some what negative direction, but not really saying anything about what the problem is, so MSP it next time you have some issues.

Open office – the good old open office plan that has been around for years with everyone working in the same room together….OMG….. no thank you!
Plug in – easy plug the plug in the socket…. it couldn’t be any simpler.
Pop up – that happens when you put bread in the toaster to be toasted and when it is done being toasted it pop’s-up

PDF – oh, an office nightmare….Photocopier Doesn’t Function
QNX – now here you need a bit of imagination: Quite Normal Expressions; when translated into computer lingo means nothing is new.
Root – every plant has this… nothing new
Server- those folks must have gotten this inspiring word while they were drinking a coffee at a coffee shop and a server served them.

USB – Again a fascinating word : Underlying useless business….. This does happen in the business world,so be careful not to waste your time.
Virus – bad news with winter coming in a couple of months there are always lots of theses in the air,so take care.
Wine – Tastes good sometimes with meals and come in different colors too.
Zip – those are on many jackets and other garments worn.

Now after translating these wonderful words you now may be better able to understand the other meanings as to how we non computer professional can keep up with the world of words today.

Computer folks keep those great words coming… GWC for now!

A Couple of Calories Today

With all the talk and articles about the calories in drinks and food I am not too sure about what are they all trying to tell me……… A surmounting amount of questions…… and the worries never stop…OMG

With the fashionable coffee drinks of the season with the trillions of calories that will probably make me fall over just looking at it. I wonder why everyone is up in arms about the calories…… no one is forcing me to drink those beverages, and I can choose what I like to drink and if I want one of those trillion calorie drinks then I am simply going to drink it; whether it is healthy for me or not.

The same holds true for the food we eat ….. Trillions of calories in everything and nothing is healthy…. One week this and the next week that …. I just can’t seem to keep up with all these calories loaded foods let alone the money I would have to spend each week changing my diet to keep-up with the latest fad…. This is all too mind boggling for me.

Plus, to top it off, I am still alive and managing without all those reminders that I had a piece of toast with butter or I ate 2 eggs for breakfast and downed it with a couple of cups of coffee and to make things worse had a glass of orange juice. Sugar in the orange juice, cholesterol in the eggs and butter and fat in the butter, oh and not to forget the caffeine in my coffee and my day has just started….

Then there is lunch with its dangers lingering somewhere in the shadows of my life. I think I’ll go for a salad. Is it healthy????? Maybe or maybe not…. With no salad dressing I am on the safe side or maybe just a honeymoon salad then I know for sure I am eating healthy, and a glass of water to down the bland tasting leaves of the salad. I feel like I am the picture of health now!!

But there is the afternoon coffee-break there just tempting me to drink one of those flavorful beverages with only a trillion calories ….. I want one but all the articles say they are bad for me. I stare through the window of the coffee shop admiring all those people who are sitting there enjoying themselves without a care in the world and no thoughts about the trillion calories either…. Tears swell in my eyes as trillions of little calories prance through my brain and they get the best of me and I go inside and order and enjoy a trillion calories and who cares, because it is only winter once a year and I need to enjoy myself sometimes and do all those things that the articles try to make me worry about.

No worries here and of those trillions of calories….. Well hey, Life is like that and everyone has to make up their own minds!

Puttering Around………

I got to thinking this morning how it always rains when you take a couple of days off from work …… Why is that?????
I somehow think the clouds and weather have a direct connection to the management department and plan together that, if I have off it should rain, so that they don’t feel so bad because they have to work…… An interesting theory ……. Don’t you think?

Well, I got this wiz bang idea to clean a room and hoe out the junk and I managed!!! Believe me it wasn’t easy, but now all the junk is in the hallway, but I must say the other room looks good!! And because it is raining outside, I can’t put the stuff outside either for awhile; while I sort the other stuff out!!! Bad luck somehow..

I really wasn’t planning on sorting stuff out; I wanted to be outside enjoying the summer weather and showing off my summer wardrobe, but “NO” it has to rain!!

Back to puttering around, sitting here thinking about it my grandmother was always “puttering around” the house, and when I asked her “What are you doing?” She would answer “puttering around”. Though I never understood it really… It was like she moved things around the house or straightened things up on the coffee table. I know the word “puttering around” is a bit dated, but I like the word, because you can do 20 things at once with no worries because you are “puttering around”…

So I’ll stick to the word “puttering around”, and since I started writing this; I’ve stopped to unload the washing machine, talked on the phone to a friend come back to write a bit more here, stopped again for a cup of coffee, looked at the newspaper. Wrote a bit more here, looked at the stuff in the hallway and I’ll “putter around” some more too.

To be honest “puttering around” on a rainy day isn’t that bad at all, as long as you have something to “putter around”…..
The thought is: When someone asks you “What did you do at home all day?” Your answer: “I was puttering around.”

And the person that asked that question won’t have the slightest idea of what you are talking about….

Enjoy “Puttering Around”!!!

Multi-tasking and My Attention

What I just read seemed to pop my bubble of how I thought us gals were great at multi-tasking, but NOOOOO, guys are supposedly better at least according to some study. I think they forgot to ask me and a couple of other gals about this topic of “Multi-tasking” to hear what we have to say about guys being great at it.

Okay, guys please don’t get me wrong here, but I really don’t see many guys doing more than one thing at a time, and this defiantly holds true when something has to be done…. No multi-tasking…. Just “I’ll do it when I have time”….. When that time is or will be is another question, but not now, later.

Plus, what is “multi-tasking”… drinking a beer and watching a soccer game or football game on TV all at the same time??? A challenging thought…. But no, it has to be more like drinking a coffee in the morning and reading the newspaper at the same time, or monkying around with your Smartphone and texting at the same time while sitting on the sofa and pretending to hear what I have to say. I am sure the list could be endless…. And some guys and gals can relate to this here.

As a gal my “multi-tasking” tasks are endless… Make breakfast, clean-up cook dinner set the table, go to work… talk on the phone , write an email, and the list goes on… I seem to be always doing two tasks at once, and it’s endless… but I’m not good at “multi-tasking” according to the study because I am a gal…..

I feel somewhat heartbroken with that thought, because I wanted to win the “Multi-Tasking gal of the year award 2015”, so that I could proudly display the award, and when you would walk into my home there on the wall…on display my “ Multi-tasking” award, but NO, so now what???
I’m doomed because of some article…. No, cool award on my wall this year!!!

But that isn’t the only thing going on… My attention span has been compared to a gold-fish… Now that just takes the cake!!! Okay, no cake on offer but still, I think I have a good attention span and can hold out a bit longer than a gold-fish.

But then again, I haven’t been hanging around any gold-fish lately, and to be honest; I’m not friends with any either…. What I don’t understand is; how can you ask a gold-fish if it is interested in something, and I am sure my interests are not the same as a fishes interests are….. Or am I over looking something???? Though it could be with the “multi-tasking” that a gold-fish is good at it and they meant that “guy” gold-fish are good “multi-taskers” . Now I’m curious?????

I need to get in contact with those “multi-tasking” guys and ask them about this whole thing… I can see it now “Gold fish are multi-tasking experts and have short attention spans” and this we know because we did an exclusive interview with Mr. Gold fish; the top ranking gold-fish in his tank! … That would be a real page turner!!!

So, if you own a gold-fish… Watch out and keep an eye on the “Multi-tasker(s)” in your home too!

Timepiece of Happiness

Yes there was a time when we could simply be happy and didn’t need to be told that we were happy but nowadays… How the heck do I know if I am happy or not???? A couple of years back there was the mood ring where the stone changed its color so I knew if I was happy or what and the ring changed color too because I wore it too much and my finger turned green and not from envy.

Then there was the mood glasses too, they helped put the world in a rosy perspective, so to say, but they didn’t let me know if I was happy or not and not knowing that simple fact is somewhat disturbing, if you ask me…… Don’t ask!

But now I feel saved because there is a watch coming onto the market that will save me thinking and will just let me know if I am happy or not………..

Hummmm, I think I feel happy, but better check or else I won’t know and will be left in the dark wondering if I am happy or not???? Now that is a load taken off my shoulders… Not that I was worried about being happy or knowing if I was. The thought never crossed my mind before, but now with a watch to tell me if I am happy or not… Life couldn’t be easier and I can tell everyone after a quick glance at my watch if I am happy or not…

So, everyone out there just a warning; if you didn’t get a chance to look at my watch before seeing my face, be careful because it used to be that the facial expression gave a clue as to what mood the person is/was in. So, if you see a somewhat up-set look on my face steer clear because it means that I am in a bad mood, otherwise I am in a good mood and you can see this without looking at my watch or me looking at my watch either……. A plain simple fact!!! I bet you didn’t know that….

Then again, like the article mentioned I can wear the watch to bed and it monitors how I sleep if I move around in my sleep and how long I have slept…… I feel worn out just thinking about all that and then after trying to fall asleep not move too much, feel happy, have happy dreams and so forth….
Though when I wake up in the morning after a good night’s sleep I can inform everyone that I slept happily, am well rested and now happily awaiting the day to start… Where’s my coffee??? Or else I am in a bad mood…… No watch needed for this bit of information!!

Plus, to compare myself to friends….. OMG!!! There we go the start of ruining my friendship with friends and we are all comparing our happiness, sleeping habits and so on. I am not too sure doing that would be a good idea and what happens when one of us is happier than the other??? Wouldn’t it be a bit show-offy if I went around to my friends and said “Hey, look at how happy I am.” Okay, that is theory. But if they said that they were happier than me……Now what????

And to top it off… it will give me tips on how to change my lifestyle….. How does the watch know how I live and whether I eat healthy or not??? I like my lifestyle and I think I can think for myself and that wearing a happiness watch along with my normal watch would be a tad too much, but then again I would know if I was happy or not…… Even thought I have to buy my happiness watch to know that I am happy, but hey, to know I am happy is worth every cent!! Or ?????

Have a happy Friday

Hot Coffee and Cleaning the House….

You are probably asking yourself what have both of those in common… more than you think I say!

I read that there is a new coffee cup out there that can keep a cup of coffee warm for up to 45 minutes and then all you have to do is recharge it via USB and away you go with another cup of warm coffee.

This gadget I see as a real thing for guys, but I think it could be easy to say that the hot coffee cup may peter out after a time because if you only like your coffee hot and the battery only lasts 45 minutes… then what is left over, but a sorry cup of cold coffee and a dead battery, and if you don’t have a USB connection available, then you are “S… out of luck”!!!

With all these modern things around “how has one survived so long using a conventional cup for coffee?” Now that is a question that requires deep thought and scientific research.

But coffee is the essence of life; it tastes good, if made right. And with the right gadgets great coffee is just a step away, so to say and cleaning the house somehow goes hand in hand with a cup of coffee. It is said that guys have to do more house work after they retire from work and so I see a whole new dimension as to how to interest guys to do house work.

There you have it guys (once retired) your heated coffee cup, but wait a minute here! Wasn’t there once the headed coaster thing that you could place your coffee mug on and it would keep you mug of coffee warm for awhile??? Away, these sorts of gadgets are just things guys need to get them interested in the world of housework. Gals put your thinking caps on and get those gadgets out!!

Guys you cans have your robot vacuum cleaner (providing endless hours of entertainment) and maybe could hold a sort of vacuum race with your buddies to see who gets the job done first or who has the coolest dishwasher? Then it’s time for a coffee break and your coffee is still warm in your new heated mug…. Post a couple of messages and take a couple of selfies too. Who said housework has to be dull and boring for guys?

It is just an action packed event and this is all because of the new gadgets around these days. Then when the chores are done inside there’s the robot lawnmower to keep you from getting bored outside the house.

Guys, I could think of thousands of action packed ways for you to get involved in housework and not wait until you retire, because by then the coffee maybe cold, and who wants that?

Sorry No Selfie Today

It was brought to my attention the other day that young people take at least 30 “selfies” of themselves a day. Where do they find the time???

It got me thinking about selfies and if took 30 of myself in a day …. How would I manage?

So, I guess the first one would be when I get-up in the morning….. You probably would have a heart attack if you saw me, so I guess I won’t post one of me getting-up…. Thank goodness you say!!

Selfie number 2: Just showered, wet hair in my old bathrobe and drinking a cup of coffee… Now that is a picture to share with the world…Or???

Selfie number 3: Brushing my teeth and putting my make-up on all at the same time… Now you say: “that is a picture I want to see”!

Selfie number 4: Me doing the dishes before going to work. I bet you never saw anyone doing that before? Or is there someone at your house who does that too?

Selfie number 5: Standing at the bus stop…. Now that could be an action packed photo. I did a background check, my hair is perfect and I look good until the wind comes along right when the picture is being taken…. Who cares … post it anyway! I am at the bus stop

Selfie number 6: (To be honest I am getting tired of taking selfies and I am only at picture number 6) But the day is young and “Selfies” will make my day better…. Hopefully???

Selfie number 7: forgot to take number 6 … we’ll just skip one! Now here I am waiting for the commuter train on the platform with all the other happy commuters…. Don’t you feel that this is a must take picture to show everyone?? I do

Selfie number 8: at the office… in my office wow… This is a cool place a must picture!!! Of course with me in it…

Selfie number 9: Me by the coffee machine at work… Aren’t you impressed??

Selfie number 10: can’t take it, big boss says no!! Party pooper

Selfie number 11: no group picture either. Everyone in the office is too busy to stop for a group Selfie…. Where is the fun here?? This Selfie stuff is turning into a full time job and I am not sure if I have time to do my job now or should I be taking Selfies

Selfie number 12: Me eating my peanut butter and jelly sandwich at my desk…. Now that is something to write home about!

Selfie number 13: Leaving the office for the day… How do you like me waving at you?? Aren’t I just full of original ideas for my Selfies???

Selfie number 14: Me getting a shopping trolley at the grocery store… I bet you never thought that my life was so exciting? Did you????

Selfie number 15: A gallon of milk in my hand… you never knew that was what a gallon of milk looked like before??? Well, if you didn’t now you know.

Selfie number 16- 29: requires too much energy on my part and the battery is getting low on my Smartphone.

Selfie number 30: in the kitchen again… where I was this morning only now making dinner…. I hope everyone is hungry and likes what I am cooking?

Sorry no more selfies today!

Wonderful Weekdays

Week days come and go but isn’t each day a special day in the week and not just a name? Well, I think so. Even if you didn’t ask me.

Days come and go the same as weeks and years. A week has just about ended and we are almost at the end of the second month in 2015…. But what about those days of the week that come and go and we only remember that it was one of those days…. Or was it a special day??? It could have been but no one noticed it. There seems to be a day for everything thing nowadays and I just can’t seem to keep up with them all… I have a good memory (My brain is still working….. Thank goodness!! I was getting a bit worried) But do I really need to know all those days???

Years ago there weren’t so many just the usual ones and that was it. Normally for some famous person or such. Now there is the coffee day, dog day, and so forth… My list could be from my house and probably span around the globe if I looked up what each day stood for…. To be honest I won’t; I’ll leave that job for someone else to do. Thank you, and when you are finished please let me know the exact number.

I have taken this issue to another dimension because the thought started the other day while I was at the office and contemplating …. I love to do that (but don’t tell anyone!!). There are seven days in the week, maybe there should be more, but I am happy with seven. If you want more days please do not complain to me about it because it isn’t my department….. Go to the – I need more days department where whoever is in charge may be able to help you. Though I do have my doubts about that!!!

Days could be like this:

Serious Saturdays – I mean really I am always serious on this day, no monkeying around just serious housework (that I dislike doing…. And maybe some of you out there too feel the same way I do???)This is a job that has to be tackled with the seriousness of being well organized and scheduled. Which means do not bother me until my multi-organized household chore schedule has been completed…. How quick I am depends on who phones first and where should we meet-up for a cup of coffee…. Plus, what do I want to clean today??? Always a somewhat moving question that boggles my brain each time I ask myself that question…. Though sometimes, I do have to be careful that I don’t argue with myself about what I should do first. The problems of serious Saturdays.

Sentimental Sundays – Sundays seem to be a great day to be sentimental; you can sit back and take it easy and reminisce about all sorts of things and dream about the good’ol days or something else that occupies your mind and just let your thoughts wander to all those pleasant times that took place in your life. A must in my book… we need some pleasantries in our life and not always worries, so maybe being sentimental could help. There are so many pleasant things that have happened in my life and they are great to think about and always bring a smile to my face…

Mellow Mondays – Oh, the beginning of the week again and I have to go to the office… Mondays are a day where thoughts should be collected, strategies may be planned and so forth… being concentrated and mellow makes it so much easier to deal with all that stuff instead of panicking because it is Monday. Mondays have been around for years and will be, so why not take the day in stride instead of dreading it????

Tension on Tuesdays – The week is here and now I really need to start working… getting those emails answered, writing that report… the deadline is approaching and I still have to attend a meeting… that does put a bit of tension in the day, but hey it is Tuesday and it is a day when tension is in the air.

Working Wednesdays – This is a day that one should be the most productive… At least that is what I read once. Though to be honest I am a bit skeptical about that theory. I work on all the other days too. I know there are the scales to assess how much you have achieved and how productive a person is…. Actually, I recently tried the email theory… only answer emails once every 3 or 4 hours….. Well, believe me if you want stress in your life do that!!!!! Those folks who sent me emails wanted answers and not wait half a day for a reply…. Sorry, but that theory does not work in my job!!

Tempting Thursdays – Now Thursdays are actually the day to prepare for the weekend, because everywhere you can read about what is going on where you live, etc…. That alone always makes me start thinking about what should I do on the weekend??? It can be so tempting…. Shopping (a gals favorite pastime), a movie, meet friends, or watch TV…. I have to decide today before it is too late and all the options to do something are not there anymore tomorrow…… Look out world … I am going to plan something for the weekend !!!!!

Frustrating Fridays – A day of deadlines and I hope that everyone else in the office has met the deadline too, or else S… will hit the fan and I do not want to be party to that event! I know some people enjoy that sort of thing but not me…. It seems like lots of people are frustrated on Fridays not only because of work… I believe it is a lack of planning that they could have done on Temping Thursdays that would have avoided the frustration on Fridays.

Whatever day it is make the best of it and enjoy it!

Modern Humor for Modern Times

A little modern humor for today’s modern society. I received the humorous text below from a friend ( the author is unknown) and thought I would share it with everyone because it seems to show how life is really heading now-a-days!

We had an outage at my place this morning and my PC, laptop, TV, DVD, iPad & my new surround sound music system were all shut down.

Then I discovered that my iPhone battery was flat and to top it off it was raining outside, so I couldn’t play golf.

I went into the kitchen to make coffee and then I remembered that this also needs power, so I talked with my wife for a few hours.

She seems like a nice person.

Making Your Bed

The things you can learn to do now-a-days online is amazing… Now it’s how to make your bed properly and all these years I have been struggling with this chore mornings and evenings or when changing the sheets… How have I managed????

I never knew that there were problems doing this household chore and that there are instructions on how to do this is beyond my train of thought.

But now as I sit here I can see the problems just lurking around the corner waiting for me to either make the bed or change the sheets…. I better be careful because I am not sure what sort of mood my bed linens may be in today….. And to top it off what would happen if I didn’t make the bed???? Probably problems galore!!!

I can see it now at a theater near you “The revenge of the Bed linens” there they are communicating via Bluetooth (need to be modern here) throughout the house (say house has 3 bedrooms) each bed saying how are we going to be treated today and how should we react??? A very intriguing question indeed… Then it happens someone decides to change the bed linens on all the beds… panic breaks out and all beds are alarmed and communicate to each other saying…. “Let’s make life difficult for the person who is going to change the sheets”…. Now with the escalation of excitement and you are sitting on the edge of your seats just thinking “What will happen?”…. There and then the blanket , pillowcase, sheets make themselves into strange creatures that seem to take on their own being and not let the person make the bed, but rather they act in such a way that making the bed turns into a frustrating routine and so, then it’s time to turn to the trusty….. Make my bed APP, where all your problems will be solved in seconds. Though this only holds true if you have the bed lines that are on the app, otherwise you need professional advice from the visiting “Make your bed team” and there for a small exuberant fee you can learn how to tackle those unruly blankets, pillows and so forth.

I feel saved already!!!! Thank goodness, now I can make the bed knowing that there is support out there if I need it. I was just sweating at the thought of doing that chore. I need a cup of coffee before I approach the making the bed process.

So when you have to change the bed linens or make your bed remember approach the job with care , so as not too upset your pillow, blankets, etc…. Enjoy your day
