I Married my Smartphone!

The days of smoking are over! Who needs to light-up a cigarette, because there is a replacement for it right in your hand and it’s always there, and knows about you, keeps track of your dates/ appointments and is basically your companion that one cannot do without today…. Our Smartphone, cell phone, mobile phone or whatever you want to call it.

It is simply there and always with you… No one would admit that they are a “Smartphone junky” because it is seen as being fashionable, so you never leave home without it!!!
I am always surprised by how attached people are to their Smartphone’s and I see a new trend on the horizon “Marrying my Smartphone” if you aren’t already married to it. People seem to spend more time monkeying around with their Smartphone’s than with their guy or gal……

An SMS conversation between a guy and gal:

1 – Guy: Ever heard of spoken communication?
2- Gal: Not too sure, let me check the internet to see what that was or is?
3- Gal: That was something that was done years ago before Smartphone’s
4- Guy: oh
5- Gal: should we try
6-Guy: How ??
7- Gal: ????
8- Guy: Huh ???
9- Gal: Date??
10- Guy: y +m
11-Gal: Yah, Fri ev @ 8.00
Now the date:
Real time speaking to each other: hi – hi
SMS:
Guy- Should we talk ??
Gal- Txting is easier
Guy- ok 🙂
Gal- ok 🙂
Guy- Pizza + Beer?
Gal – Do you have the order app for this restaurant?
Guy- sorry no
Gal- 😦 No food… you jerk!!

Is that what dating or communicating is turning into???? I hope not, because I still love to talk.
Then there’s the app that lets you communicate instantaneously, so the sender basically can judge from how long it takes for you to answer as to what you are up too…. Now where’s my life?????

Everyone wants to know what the other person is doing or indirectly even control or distrust the other person to whom they are sending the message too… or it is a plain form of self realization because they constantly need to tell someone how great and popular they are… But are they really popular???

I feel that sometimes my Smartphone is like a big chain around my neck!! Do I constantly have to be sending sms’s???

Wouldn’t it be nicer to call the other person up and hear their voice??? The sound of a real person’s voice can be so nice to hear and hopefully it won’t get lost in the world of sms’s!

Conversation is so nice, so let’s try and keep it alive!!

Not Looking …

Not looking is the newest trend among cell phone users and seems to be on the increase as more and more people are jumping on the bandwagon to copy everyone else. Not looking where you are going and on concentrating on that all important object the “cell phone”. Could be, as I see it the hit of 2013 if we aren’t careful.

What happened to walking down the street and looking around you and seeing who is walking by or what is in a store window or even take a moment to look at the scenery…. Those days are over – what a pity!!!

Isn’t this bad for your posture not walking straight or are we now all born with the “look at my cell phone” gene??? But for these folks I guess that when they reach a certain age they will be in the group with the” looking at my cell phone” syndrome or having texting fingers or forgotten how to communicate verbally to each other….. oh what a pity if you ask me, because there is soooo much to life besides the cell phone.

I can see it now in the future… conversation doesn’t exist anymore only texting messages to each other. It could be like this at our house:

My guy is sitting in the living watching TV or reading the newspaper and then decides that he would like a cup of coffee to drink and instead of getting up and coming into the kitchen where I am( By the way,my favorite room in the house) ;he will just send me a text message asking for a cup of coffee and because my eyes were on my cell phone… Thank goodness… Don’t want to think about it if they weren’t!!!! And then I can text him back saying I’ll bring him a cup or he could get up off his backside and GPS his way into the kitchen. Remember he has to look at the screen of his cell phone otherwise he may get lost looking at all the stuff we have around the house and trying to find his way from the living room to the kitchen…. Could give him the shock of this life and I wouldn’t want to do that too him!!!

Or even a worse thought could be that he is out in the garage with his buddies and I am not in the kitchen but somewhere else in the house for example taking a shower and he texts me a message and low and behold I can’t answer it right away… Now that could be devastating because I am not chained to my cell phone. Plus, the message probably would be important -> something like “ I’m in the garage with the guys having a beer.” As if that is world moving news for me???????

But then again I could text him a message saying that I’m going out for a while and will be back later. Who needs to give each other a kiss before you leave the house when a text message would be sufficient….. What’s the world coming too I ask?????

Then I could make my way to my friend’s house via GPS because if I looked around I would get lost. Then text a message saying I’m on the way and instead of ring the door bell just a quick text message saying I’m at the front door and once inside we can text each other… Is that what we really want from life????? Not me….

Maybe it’s about time that people stand up straight and take a look at the world around them instead of always staring at the screen of their cell phones.

SORRY NO TIME FOR FRIENDS!

Do you have time for your friends? The scary truth of the matter is that since the cell phone was invented no one has time for real-time friendship…… Where have all my friends gone??? Anyone seen them around? I better start looking for them now before it is too late.

It seems like people are spending more time with their cell phones then taking time for a real life conversation and that some folks have just had enough of it and said to the person that they don’t want to be their friend anymore. I am glad that I haven’t been struck with this disease!

Why has the cell phone become soooooo important to people and they are letting it take over their lives????? It’s a tough question to answer… but maybe you know the answer?

That little device seems to have made it so no one knows how to talk anymore or when you are talking to someone and your cell phone rings then all of a sudden the person you were talking too is forgotten and the phone is more important and to see who sent me a message or what is going on in my social network. How sad; I say. Why should the cell phone have to control your life? We lived years without it and somehow we were always connected and in the loop.

The wonders of yesteryear… Somehow back then I knew what was going on in my friends lives and I had time for them because we weren’t distracted by some device that wanted to inform me that someone in the virtual world out there has just posted a photo of their new pair of shoes or some other useless piece of info that I really don’t need to know.

But then again with the right cell phone I am in and hip and up-to-date in the virtual world but the sorry truth is that my real time friends aren’t there anymore or just don’t have time for me either because of their virtual social networks…. Will the spoken word get lost to the text message and correct spelling will only be able to be seen in a museum that shows books that were printed before a certain date???

The thought of spending hours on end with my cell phone texting messages or networking would be boring and it just doesn’t replace good friends and conversation!

Take time for real time friendship; it could be more fun than texting if you try it!
