Another year again with Decorations

There you have it… November is here and Christmas decorations are in all the stores again…. But nothing is new, so I decided to take a look at my collection of decorations that seem to have collected themselves through the years… Maybe you know this phenomenon at your house too???

I see all these tips (life hacks) as to how to organize my decorations and sort them out and so forth and the most annoying are the strings of lights that seem to magically tangle themselves throughout the summer months. How this happens is beyond me…. Really baffling when I think about it (maybe better not to think about it..)

Of course, with good intentions I bought all the organizational material needed to sort out my chaos of decorations, but the thought of them not being placed in their beloved box that I bought them in, that is held together with adhesive tape brings tears to my eyes… that carton or better said the box for the glass tree decorations has a history to it and just looking at the faded price sticker reminds me of the day I bought them… How can an organization box with everything crammed neatly into it give me the same feeling???? No, it can’t!!!!

And there before my eyes are the strings of lights, some brightly colored and others only with white bulbs tangled up overnight by themselves, because I know I placed them properly in the box at the end of the Christmas season, plus which string of lights still works or which string has burnt-out bulbs??? A puzzling question indeed!!!
This is a job that needs to be tackled right away before the magic moment of using them in December… Nothing worse than a burnt-out bulb to ruin the look of your Christmas tree or the fact that the whole darn string of bulbs don’t work because one bulb is burnt-out and the lights are already on the tree… I know the lights worked before I hung them on the tree ( I tried them out first and everyone light-up) I am sure you know that problem too????
Then there are the yearly broken decorations in the box…. How that happened is beyond me??? The OMG effect is best in this case is my motto..

When confronted with a broken glass decoration is care of the utmost importance; not because you could cut yourself, but because maybe the decoration has memories attached to it and so depose of it with care when saying good-bye to it… Good bye dear decoration….we had many years of great times together!!!

One more thing are those plastic decorations that are a dime a dozen but do not stand a chance on my tree, because they just don’t have the shine and shimmer that glass decorations can give you on your tree….

But what I really wanted to say is: Sort out your decorations carefully and enjoy the moments when doing it, because there can be great memories attached to some decorations and we seem to forget that in our busy lives…….. Have fun sorting out!!!

Hot Days and Cool Thoughts

With sweltering summer weather and endless days of sunshine it often brings us to wish for a couple of cooler days. Isn’t that always so??? It’s cold outside so we wish for warmer weather and then it’s warm or too hot, then we want cooler weather. Life at its finest!! What’s the best temperature?

But that’s not what I really wanted to say here. Now reading through the endless bits of marvelous and interesting news stories; I came across something that really got my attention…. What you ask???

Christmas decorations being sold in a store (not a specialty store either)… Well, I guess you can never start toooo early thinking about that time of year and when the temperature is boiling outside I can let my thoughts wander to the cold month of December. I need to put my sweater on!

I can see my Christmas tree now before me …. I should pop by that store and get some decorations before everyone else grabs them all up and I may only be left with some tinsel! I feel a panic attack coming on and I hope my guy gets home in time so we can rush over there and stock up before December. Though I am sure he will tell me that I am nuts and ask if I was sitting in the sun too long today?

But a little secret; I did go up in the attic to check out what sort of decorations I have… That did calm my nerves a bit but then again what happens when December comes and there are new decorations in the stores and I find them nice too??? I got it!!! Have 2 Christmas trees in our house then my problem is solved. Does anyone out there know anyone who normally has 2 Christmas trees in their house at Christmas? I don’t, but I could start a new fad on our block.

Somehow, this Christmas decoration stuff just doesn’t seem to fit into my summer way of thinking and shopping, so I think I’ll just pass and let all of you out there buy what you want from the store while I enjoy myself at the beach…But, I will be thinking of you!

A Christmas Tree- Yes, That’s for Me!

Well, Christmas is approaching at the speed of light and on Saturday is the 1st of December – where does time go???? A Christmas tree is at the top of my list this year and a lovely green tree in my living room all decorated and smelling good just makes you want to enjoy all the pre-holiday days before Santa Claus comes down the chimney.

My mom & dad always put up the Christmas tree the first weekend in December so that we could enjoy it the whole month long, and believe me we did!!! And it wasn’t only the two legged folks either but my faithful childhood companion Cesar. Now as a dog he seemed to view the tree with other thoughts on his mind and it wasn’t sitting there looking at it or taking in the lovely fragrance of the tree either…..

I bet you can guess – One year my dad decided to buy a huge Christmas tree about 8 feet tall and it was really big but then again we had a huge living room so no problems with the tree or at least that’s what my parents thought….. My dad so proudly positioned the tree in the stand and placed it in front of the window like every year, but this was the first Christmas for Cesar at our house so in a dogs mind what is a tree good for????

Right!!! He went over to the tree sniffed at it and lifted his leg and decided to water the tree. I don’t want to repeat here what my dad said to Cesar but you can imagine and it wasn’t very nice! I can remember my mom say to my dad “You shouldn’t say such things in front of your daughter.” My dad was so mad at the dog that he didn’t care and I thought “wow, now I know some new words that you shouldn’t say!”

So Cesar had some good points when it came to learning things you shouldn’t say. Thank you, Cesar you enriched my life and I will never forget you for that!!!

Anyways after he was banished from the house for awhile he could come back in because my mom felt sorry for him outside in the cold, and by now it was dark outside and like every year we had a special ceremony at our house for the official lighting of the tree with hot chocolate, music and the works…
It was a great time and we were all proud of our Christmas tree because we decorated it ourselves and it looked great with all those colored lights and sparkling glass decorations glistening in the dark….. For about 15 minutes at least! This tree was not the Christmas tree that brought good times too our house because once we were all seated in the living room looking at how wonderful the tree looked Cesar came in and had a look at the tree and saw his reflection in one of the ornaments and wham-o he attacked the Christmas tree and dragged it across the living room floor.

Now my dad was flaming mad to say the least!!!!! And I knew that I better get out-a there as fast as I can before I get in trouble. I was summand to take Cesar upstairs to my room and watch him. I thought then and there that was the end of my loving relationship with Cesar…. That brought tears to my eyes!!!

But what did my mom & dad do they cleaned up the mess. My dad fastened the tree to the wall and we had a big section of the tree where there were no decorations, so Cesar wouldn’t see himself again and attack the tree. That was a Christmas tree to remember and I loved that tree and that Christmas, and because of that tree I have always had a Christmas tree in my house ever since I’ve left home.

Enjoy your Christmas tree!
