Lets Wrap Things Up

It’s unbelievable but true 2012 is coming to an end and the dreaded 2013 is just a couple of hours away…. Ole´
Some say that the number 13 is unlucky and other say it’s ok…. Whatever it is it’s a number that we cannot avoid for 12 whole months, so that means we have to live with it!!!

The year 2012 was a rather interesting one with all the events and also a rather sad one too with all the tragic things happening around the world. I have been looking for the past couple of days for good things that has happened in 2012 and believe me they are few and far between…. A sad thing indeed! There are sooooo many sad events that I could list that I would be writing for the next couple of days, and so I’ll just leave it.

I can only speak for myself and say that 2012 wasn’t that bad and it brought some fond memories back to life in my brain and I started doing some things that I never imagined doing in my life… But I was brave and jumped into the cold water and gave it a try. Trying that’s what counts in life.

I am not going to jump on the bandwagon of folks who say “In 2013 I need to make a New Year’s resolution”… Sure it sounds good, but really now…. How many people honestly stick with it???? I am pretty sure not toooooo many. Or am I wrong???? I am just going to take the year as it comes and make the best of things…. Sounds good but for how long??? But I know myself

Anyways, whatever is going on in your life; I wish everyone good health and happiness for the New Year 2013

THE FIRST SNOWFLAKES

Oh the first snowflakes are in the air and how lovely and white the ground does seem. Those first snowflakes every year are such a wonderful sight to behold and always bring back memories of my childhood where I would run outside to try to catch the very first flakes of snow.

Those were wonderful times back then when I was all packed in my snow suit and would run outside and try to catch the snowflakes that were falling from the sky. But I would be sooooo sad when those wonderful flakes of snow melted in my hand and I would stare at my hand and think “Why did you melt little snow flake? – You looked so pretty to me.”

I never understood the scientific aspect of snowflakes when I was a small child and nor did they interest me either. All I saw was some great white stuff falling from the sky! And that was all that mattered and it meant that winter was on its way and I hoped the snow would stay on the ground so that Santa Claus could make his way to our house with his sleigh. Very important you know for small kids and I was a firm believer that that guy Santa Claus existed!!!

Then the time came when I found out that those magical snowflakes falling from the sky were frozen ice crystals… well, that just broke my bubble of the mystical powers of those wonderful flakes, and then to top it off the same year I was informed that there wasn’t any Santa Claus. I knew then and there life would never be the same for me without those mystical snowflakes and the jolly guy who slides down the chimney to deliver the Christmas presents. How could life be sooo hard on me????

But somehow I forgot about all the scientific stuff and just started to enjoy the wonders of the snowflakes that were falling from the sky because knew they look so lovely and pristine to me and each one wasn’t the same so I knew they were falling just for me… my very own snowflakes!!!!

Enjoy the first snow fall if you live where there is snow and look at all those lovely snowflakes falling softly towards us…. I still love the first snowflakes!

A Christmas Tree- Yes, That’s for Me!

Well, Christmas is approaching at the speed of light and on Saturday is the 1st of December – where does time go???? A Christmas tree is at the top of my list this year and a lovely green tree in my living room all decorated and smelling good just makes you want to enjoy all the pre-holiday days before Santa Claus comes down the chimney.

My mom & dad always put up the Christmas tree the first weekend in December so that we could enjoy it the whole month long, and believe me we did!!! And it wasn’t only the two legged folks either but my faithful childhood companion Cesar. Now as a dog he seemed to view the tree with other thoughts on his mind and it wasn’t sitting there looking at it or taking in the lovely fragrance of the tree either…..

I bet you can guess – One year my dad decided to buy a huge Christmas tree about 8 feet tall and it was really big but then again we had a huge living room so no problems with the tree or at least that’s what my parents thought….. My dad so proudly positioned the tree in the stand and placed it in front of the window like every year, but this was the first Christmas for Cesar at our house so in a dogs mind what is a tree good for????

Right!!! He went over to the tree sniffed at it and lifted his leg and decided to water the tree. I don’t want to repeat here what my dad said to Cesar but you can imagine and it wasn’t very nice! I can remember my mom say to my dad “You shouldn’t say such things in front of your daughter.” My dad was so mad at the dog that he didn’t care and I thought “wow, now I know some new words that you shouldn’t say!”

So Cesar had some good points when it came to learning things you shouldn’t say. Thank you, Cesar you enriched my life and I will never forget you for that!!!

Anyways after he was banished from the house for awhile he could come back in because my mom felt sorry for him outside in the cold, and by now it was dark outside and like every year we had a special ceremony at our house for the official lighting of the tree with hot chocolate, music and the works…
It was a great time and we were all proud of our Christmas tree because we decorated it ourselves and it looked great with all those colored lights and sparkling glass decorations glistening in the dark….. For about 15 minutes at least! This tree was not the Christmas tree that brought good times too our house because once we were all seated in the living room looking at how wonderful the tree looked Cesar came in and had a look at the tree and saw his reflection in one of the ornaments and wham-o he attacked the Christmas tree and dragged it across the living room floor.

Now my dad was flaming mad to say the least!!!!! And I knew that I better get out-a there as fast as I can before I get in trouble. I was summand to take Cesar upstairs to my room and watch him. I thought then and there that was the end of my loving relationship with Cesar…. That brought tears to my eyes!!!

But what did my mom & dad do they cleaned up the mess. My dad fastened the tree to the wall and we had a big section of the tree where there were no decorations, so Cesar wouldn’t see himself again and attack the tree. That was a Christmas tree to remember and I loved that tree and that Christmas, and because of that tree I have always had a Christmas tree in my house ever since I’ve left home.

Enjoy your Christmas tree!

Thanks for Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving has come and gone in one country and in another everyone is waiting patiently for it to come. Without those brave folks risking their life and limb to cross the Atlantic to start a new life there may not have ever come about the “Thanksgiving Day”. So thank you pilgrims!

Today we only need to go to the grocery store and pick out a turkey and all the other stuff that you want to eat with it and in no time at all you can serve up a great meal for your family and friends. Boy, how easy life can be!!!

Those poor pilgrims had to invest a lot of time into their Thanksgiving meal and that required good planning and hopefully someone would spot a turkey to shot … I’m tired already thinking about the work involved. Then once a turkey was bagged and back home they went and the guys gal had to do the rest of the work, like clean the bird and cook it in a wood stove (maybe- can’t say because I wasn’t around back then.)or an open fire until it was done…. Thank goodness for electric ovens!

These thoughts bring back fond memories of my mom cooking us a wonderful meal on that day and the smell of the turkey cooking lingering in the air… I’m getting hungry!!! My mom invested a lot of time too.. Ok, not as much as the pilgrim gals, but still it did take her sometime. And I can say it was worth every minute that I waited. Some years it seemed like December because there was snow on the ground outside on Thanksgiving Day. I wonder did the pilgrims have snow on Thanksgiving Day way back then??

Though Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks and be with your family and friends but somehow I feel it has lost its touch and become very commercialized. We should be thankful that we can be together with our family and friends and that everyone is healthy and can enjoy a lovely meal together no matter what you serve on that day.
You don’t need to spend a fortune just to try to impress people on that day. It’s a day of giving thanks and should be remember as that.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving Day this week and remember to give thanks for the great food that you are served and to appreciate the work involved in it.

Perfect Day Today?

The perfect day has finally arrived and we can now all enjoy it if you have enough time and don’t work otherwise I don’t think the perfect day would work??? Or am I missing something here….

In the perfect day you only have about 36 minutes for work, so how do I manage a perfect day when I have to work 8-10 hours a day???………The answer is easy; fit this into your day and you will have a perfect day.

So my perfect day in a week would be as follows:

Ok, forget taking a shower and getting dressed after I get-up because that just doesn’t seem to fit into the plan for a perfect day, so I’ll go to work in my pj’s( I guess). Note: the scientist seemed to forget that people normally get cleaned up before they leave the house… Where were their brains???? That question you can answer yourself. Thank you

Well, I do have time for breakfast, say about 15 minutes and then I’m out of here and on my way to work. Another problem there is only 33 minutes a day allotted to commuting. Now what???? I feel my day may not be sooooo perfect now! But I am sure if I leave out something else I will be able to have a perfect day. But all the other stuff in a perfect day is fun too…. I want a perfect day!!!!

Finally at work now I have 48 minutes for my computer, so I’ll have to stretch this out over the day otherwise I may not look busy. So, I think I will make a couple of calls to my friends and so that gives me about 58 minutes divided by 3 and so each for my friends get 19.33 minutes of my time. I better set the timer so I don’t go over 19.33 minutes. I hope my friends won’t get upset??? But then again they want to have a perfect day too….

Now that I have called all my friends I have 78 minutes to relax and think about what I can do the rest of my perfect day. But the sad part now is none of my friends have time to meet-up this afternoon because we could spend a whole 82 minutes together on a normal perfect day. Where’s my perfect day?????????

But I could have a little nap at my desk- I have 46 minutes to shut my eyes. Though with this perfect day I still haven’t done any work and when the boss comes into my office then it will definitely NOT BE A PERFECT DAY!!!

I still haven’t had a perfect day at work, but instead I have gotten some strange looks and asked by my colleagues at work “Why am I still in my pj’s” – I said today is a perfect day and there is no time for getting dressed in a perfect day. I am not sure if my answer satisfied them or they just thought that I had gone bonkers. I would tend to think the latter that I had gone bonkers!

Ah, forget work I’ll just go home and maybe go shopping there I have 58 minutes.. I better be quick or else I won’t be able to fit all my shopping into my perfect day. I am starting to feel tired again but since I used up my nap time earlier I have no more time for relaxing…..I’m starting to feel stressed out… what should I dooooo????

I’ll just go home and putter around the house for 47 minutes and then watch some TV until my guy comes home and then I have 50 minutes to whip us up a great meal. I hope I can manage that job??? Great thing about a perfect day there is no time left for arguing about something. Now that does make for a perfect day.

The highlight of a perfect day is that you have 106 minutes for you partner. Now that’s something or??? What you do in that time is up to you. I know what I would do and timing is of the essences. Don’t want to ruin a perfect day… eh??????

Enjoy your perfect day where ever you are in the world and don’t forget to keep an eye on the clock or else you won’t have that perfect day…. Enjoy yourself!!

International Dog Day

Man’s best friend has its day today –International Dog day. Dogs are great animals and need to be respected too, so thank goodness there is a day devoted to dogs!

Our faithful friend who stands by us no matter what happens and cheers you up when felling down or that happy face and wagging tail that greets you when you open the house door. Those are wonderful things to experience and those of you who have a dog know exactly what I mean.

Unfortunately, my best 4 legged friend left us a couple of years ago. His name was Sputnik and he was a Jack Russell Terrier – who could be a little terror toooooo!!!! But his name fit him to a tee and when I think back sometime and wonder who was in charge – Sputnik or me? Though without a doubt I would say Sputnik was in charge with his canny ways and sense of humor (believe me he had one alright!). He seemed to have a way about him that he let everyone know if you were liked or not and if not , it could be hell at our house for you, and he would give you the feeling it was time to leave – and I can say it worked sometimes too.

But a great doggy memory of him was if I went out and forgot to shut the door to the living room, and you can guess where he was then…. Right on the sofa lounging away enjoying life -Until I came home! I knew he was sleeping on the sofa because when I came into the house he didn’t greet me and so I could sneak into the living room and find him sound asleep on the sofa , and of course he had made himself comfortable… only the best for Sputnik – not some hard dog bed!
You can imagine him lying there his head on a pillow the blanket positioned just so and he was lying on his back with all fours in the air snoring away in a doggy world… a sight to behold until I said “ Sputnik what are you doing on the sofa?” Well, if looks could kill then he could sure look that way as if to say I was the bad guy for coming home and disturbing him while he was having a nice rest on the sofa…. His look said to me that I was an emotionless soul and that if I don’t watch out I’m in for trouble!!!
It’s my house and my sofa but he never saw it that way. It was more like Sputnik’s sofa and his house and he could do whatever he wanted to. Though I do wonder to this day if he could have spoken –what would he have said to me? I am sure it would be something not worth repeating.

He was also a real lady’s man. Every Wednesday afternoon if someone was home to let him out; he would promptly make his way down the street for the weekly 3:00pm coffee and cake afternoon at an elderly ladies house where she always entertained some of her friends and who was also invited to come along??? Right Sputnik! Those gals loved him to death and he knew how to take advantage of it too. If he missed out on that afternoon he was in a bad mood for the next two days as if to say we deliberately wouldn’t let him go and have some cake and be the main attraction. But the day came when the elderly lady passed away and he it seemed he knew that there would be no more cake and walked passed her house with a sad look on his face for weeks… dogs can be really sensitive and I know Sputnik was too.

That’s enough about Sputnik. Enjoy your dog and remember the great times you had with him or her because they love you more than you think!

Camping memories

Summer is slowly coming to an end and the days are getting shorter and that got me to thinking about my times as a kid when I used to camp-out in the back yard in my pup tent with my friends. Those were the days.. Three girls and a Great Dane in a three man tent!

There we were professional campers who knew how to set-up such a tent and as 10 year olds we needed all the right stuff too in the tent. Plenty to eat and drink and of course it wasn’t healthy; a supply of good books and flashlights, and there we were ready for adventure that would come our way.

We were always a bit leery of a thunder storm because we always thought we may end up like one of those cartoon characters on TV who were charcoaled and their hair was standing on ends so, if there was any chance of a storm we darted for the house and camped inside…. Not as fun as outside because inside in the den my parents could see what we were up too and say when to turn the lights out. They were real party poopers!!!
Parents never seemed to understand the adventure in our camping and nor do I now when I think back on it.

Outside in the backyard in our tent exposed to the elements and to all the dangerous creatures that were lurking around in the dark just waiting to attack our tent. Those were scary times and then the owl made a noise and that made you almost jump out of your skin with fear, because we had been reading scary stories with our flashlights. Plus Cesar was there to protect us from the perils that were out there that we couldn’t see so never had to fear about the owl attacking our tent.

Once we got settled in under the blankets and Cesar lying at our feet waiting patiently for us to fall asleep and then he would creep under the blankets and push us all out from under them and we would wake up freezing in the morning while he was warm and sound asleep under the blankets. Cesar loved camping with us and as soon as he saw the tent he was the first one in it and you couldn’t get him out of it either. He knew a good thing!!!

It was sometimes a bit damp when it started to rain because the tent would leak if you accidentally touched the side of it and there I would lay with water dripping on me or I woke up damp because I touch the tent while I was asleep.

Those were great times and they are great memories too but then we got older and somehow camping in a little green tent with Cesar had lost its appeal and we wanted to be gown-up and not some babies who slept in the backyard in a tent. Cesar was sad too when we didn’t want to camp with him anymore because I know he loved the times that we all spent together in the little tent and how many times it collapsed because Cesar forgot he was in the tent an stood up taking the tent with him and we would scream at him for ruining our fun and he would just stand there wagging his tail as if to say “I want some fun too.”

Enjoy the last of the summer because it seems to be almost over for the year!

Warm Weather and Winter Fashion

Well, summer is here and we can enjoy warm days on the beach and sit back and relax. So one thinks! Retailers have other thoughts in their minds like –WINTER

There I was the other day strolling down the street only to see in a store window winter apparel, by this I mean winter coats, sweaters and the lot. Whatever happened too cold weather fashions being sold when the weather starts to get cold? Do retailers know what the real calendar seasons are or do they have any idea about what sort of weather is outside? I doubt it

Now-a-days it seems that every season starts months before in stores and when the calendar season is there then you can forget about buying the seasons fashions because it is sold out.
I am not going to look for a winter coat when I could be enjoying the warm weather outside. Plus the thought alone makes me shiver…. I see snowflakes before my eyes and the sun is shining. Where’s my good weather app?

And to top it off, if I buy a winter coat now it may be out of fashion by the time the cold weather starts, so then I need to buy a new one to keep-up with the fashion trends. Though I will admit I am not always a “must have” person but more of “what I like” and not main stream.

The troubles of women’s fashion!!!

Ok, there’s a positive side to all this. All the summer apparel is on sale and if you are lucky- I stress LUCKY you may find some great bargains!! My life is saved… As a gal who loves to shop I wonder the stores in search of the perfect summer outfit and have you ever noticed that -> off to the sales you go with a fist full of cash and with the hope of finding that top, dress or pair of shoes that you wanted and you enter the store and maneuver your way through the crowds only to be disappointed by the fact that all those great bargains are not in your size.

The frustration of sales!!

But luck was on my side and I actually bought 1 item that I was looking for and saved a fortune. I love sales!!

A small request to all retailers… Please wait for fall for the winter fashions and not put it in the store window when it’s 80°F outside, because no one in their right mind will buy a winter coat to wear to the beach in the summer. Or am I mistaken????

The Best seat

Now we all know where the best seat in the house is? Well, now they’ve even invented one so that your backside won’t get cold. Now that’s what I call enjoying yourself on the throne!

What other place in the house could offer you a pre-heated seat and the quietness that you deserve while attending to your personal business. Now the heated toilet seat could be a life saver for folks living in colder climates, because there’s nothing worse than having to go and to sit down on an ice cold seat. That just spoils the fun… and you don’t want to hang out and read the paper either when it’s cold.

The perils of the bathroom throne!

But like always I think there are many advantages to such a nifty seat and all the accessories that you can get to make your time on the throne more enjoyable.

Now that you have installed the heated seat with the controls – don’t want it to turn into a hot seat and burn your backside do we??? After adjusting the controls to achieve the right temperature for your comfort and deciding what extras to install in your bathroom…

Very important here is -> is this heated throne seat to be in the main bathroom or the guest bathroom, because if it’s in the guest bathroom they may forget themselves there because it’s sooo warm and start reading a magazine or something and then you are lost. Bad idea

So, save yourself the aggravation then and install it in your private bathroom and there you can install such cool things as a coffee machine for longer visits. Don’t want to read the paper without a cup of coffee and naturally there’s the table set-up too so you can place a cup and paper on the table and text a couple of messages telling your friends how great it is to have a heated toilet seat making you the envy of everyone.

And if that’s not enough you could make it so that you can control the toaster from the throne so when you’re finished your toast is warm and waiting for you in the kitchen. So, starting your day off with no more stress because you were too long in the bathroom.

Plus this great system comes as a portable model too. You wouldn’t want to be out and about and think “Oh, I have to go” well, just get out your battery heated seat and presto no more cold backsides .By the way, this fits in all handbags and briefcases.

The wonders of the world of toilet seats!

If this still hasn’t convinced you about the heated throne then think about it next time you are freezing your backside off on a cold throne and then you will wish you had a heated model too. I want a heated throne!!
