Christmas is over….

Well Christmas is over and now we are counting the days until the New Year 2017…. My how time fly’s!

Though Christmas is not that far in the past and so many people seem not to gotten the present they hoped for and want to return it to where it was purchased and exchange it for something else that they like… this seems like a normal thing with lots of people, but I must be lucky because I am always happy with what I receive and never want to return anything that I get.

And now there are the over abundance of tips as to what to do with the leftovers from Christmas dinner and how to store all the food properly, as if it is something new all these food hacks (ideas/tips) nothing has changed, just the design of the plates the food is served on and as for storing the food, common sense I hope still exists and we know what to do.

Though like every year now there are the tips on how to lose those extra Christmas pounds in time for New Years Eve, so you can wear that new little outfit…. I think I’ll skip that and wait and enjoy myself instead of worrying… I feel better already!
Nothing worse than not being able to enjoy yourself…. Everyone around you is eating and drinking something, and there you are saying” Sorry, no thanks. I am on a diet until 31 December”… Just image the comment or the facial expression of the person you say that too…. They will/would probably think you’re nuts!!

Sorry got a bit sidetracked here. I think I’ll just put my feet-up and take it easy and enjoy myself and forget about all the food hacks, diets, etc….

Enjoy yourself too….Christmas is over only once a Year!

Come and Gone….

It was here as quick as it was over with a blink of an eye…… It was Christmas and another blink, and it was over…….
We spend sooooooo much time preparing for a couple of hours of togetherness and then Christmas is here and a couple of hours later it is over with only memories, some photos and presents left-over for us to look at and hopefully for everyone a happy memory of those hours.

Before Christmas this year I was looking around at the people only to see faces that seemed stressed-out and no smiles (where have the smiles gone???). Somehow, my childhood memories seem to be filled with more people smiling when I was out and about…… Whether that is true or not; I can’t say, but it seemed so and was nice to see.
Please world don’t forget how to smile because it is something that doesn’t cost anything and is so nice to see.

Now everyone is getting ready for the next round of action…. New Years eve and then there you have it; not only has Christmas come and gone, but a year too.

Though before that happens there is still time to enjoy the last days of this year and that is what we should do and, so enjoy the last days of this year and have a happy and healthy New Year 2016!

Not What I Wanted

The same old thing again but it seems to be getting more popular through the years… returning the presents that you don’t like or don’t fit you and so with the “not what I wanted” everyone hopes to find what they want. What is the success rate of finding what you want???

Why don’t people communicate with each other before for the big day to find out exactly what the other person wishes for or what size do they wear and maybe this would avoid all the post-Christmas stress of returning the things that weren’t wanted?

In the paper and on TV I have seen and read that thousands of people around the globe are waiting endlessly in line to return their “not want I wanted’s”…. Oh the perils of giving presents!!! It seems these perils are getting more and more as society and the global world are linked closer together, and to make a person happy with the right present is harder and harder because the recipient goes online to see if there is something better than what they just received…..

When I think back we never had those choices and sure you could return the “not what I wanted”, but somehow we seemed more satisfied with what we received and not comparing quality, price and function right after unwrapping the present.

Have we lost track of being thankful that some dear person thought of us and took the time to buy or make and wrap that present, only to hear someone say to them…That’s not what I wanted!!!

A very sad feeling indeed for the person giving the present, knowing that what they picked out or made is totally wrong….. The modern form of communication at its best!

I have been lucky this year not to have received any “not what I wanted’s” and so I hope you have received some presents too that are what you wanted!

I’m waiting for Santa

It just doesn’t seem possible that in a couple of hours it is that time of year again where Santa will be visiting us all around the world.

I have been putting a bit of thought into Santa’s logistics and that guy must really be organized to get all the presents delivered on time to everyone and the time he and his helpers needed beforehand to read all the wish lists and to pack all the presents with the right kind of wrapping paper is unbelievable let alone the amount of wrapping paper needed to wrap everything… That guy Santa is simply amazing!!!

I always wonder does Santa ever have problems with the elves that work for him, because we never hear anything about them and all the great things they do for Santa so he can deliver all the presents on time and how many elves does he have working for him??? Anyone know?

Then there are the reindeer.. Great animals and the strength they must have to pull Santa and his sleigh around is really amazing. We seem to forget about all the logistics behind Santa that makes his one night a year run so smoothly.

Santa…. I am waiting here patiently for you and I just want to thank all your helpers in the background that make your one great night a year a success!

Merry Christmas to everyone out there who has read this post.

Rush Out and Buy!

The same problem every year… the right present and now all I read is that I have to rush out and buy something for Christmas. Where do I rush too and what do I buy??? Those articles are full of suggestions and tips as to how I can spend all my hard earned cash on that present that really isn’t needed and the only winner is the retailer who emptied my wallet and has a grin on their face….

I have wandered the malls and looked in many a store to find something to “rush out and buy” but in the end I still haven’t bought anything, because I haven’t seen anything that is really the present of the year 2013! There are sales and offers or buy one get one free but that still isn’t what I am looking for.

I feel misdirected as to where to rush too and buy…. Any ideas out there????

What do my friends and family want for Christmas and is it something I want to buy them??? My “rush out and buy” seems to be slowing down and by the time that day comes.. The good’ol 25th December I am still not sure if I will have bought anything by then.

I could “rush out and buy”:

Clothing….. Have enough of that.

Toiletries…. Got plenty of that too… why more, just to collect dust!

Electronics… How many devices does one need and the cables and chargers alone cost as must as the device itself.

Gift certificates… great but impersonal.. And how much should the certificate be worth, and is it from the right store???

My list could be endless here and I am in a rut as to “rush out and buy”… I’ll take my time and think about it before I spend all my money in one place or at all !

Tis the season to be jolly and spending!

What’s Cooking?

What’s cooking for the meal for that big day can be a tremendous feat if you are not organized to the last second or at least I think so???? Everyone seems to be running around trying to get those last minute things for their Christmas meal or the last minute present because they forgot someone on their list. Well, those things can happen….. I am saved from this dilemma this year because I am for ONCE in my life organized and believe me I find it hard to believe myself but it is true!!!

My guy asked me this morning if I was feeling ok, because I am soooooo organized this year. I told him that I thought for once in my life I want to be organized and have time for everybody on the 25th instead of spending all my time running around doing something. I want a relaxed Christmas and so I will have it!!!! No questions asked here- that is my decision!!!

My tree is decorated and the food is purchased and all my presents are bought; so Christmas you can come to our house. Who says life has to be stressful at this time of year??? Ok, I know thousands of people around the world would argue this point with me, but with a little foresight and planning there is no stress and hey if something goes wrong on the 25th then it goes wrong. I am too old to worry about what everyone thinks of how I do things around my place and if something burns on the stove top then it can be either forgotten or I’ll make something else to replace it… life can be so simple!

My mom was amazing when it came to organizing our Christmas dinner on the 25th and she always remained cool and served up a super meal in my eyes! Mom – thanks for all those great turkey dinners you made us. I know I can cook pretty good but my mom’s Christmas dinner can still top mine. Plus, I’ve never been as organized as she was and thought this year I’ll try her strategy and see if it works….. Please let it work and I’ll be the happiest person on earth

Another thing, I read all those articles about how stressed folks are or will be on the 25th. I always wonder are people stressed so then they have something to talk about or what is it??? Even when I am not organized I don’t feel stressed-out. I think society puts too much emphasis on stress and so everyone is convinced that on the 25th you have to be stressed instead of taking things as they come and enjoying life for a change.

So, relax and take things as they come because then there won’t be any stress and enjoy the day when it’s there!

How much Money to Spend on Christmas?

How much money to spend on Christmas is a good question? With the big day just a couple of weeks around the corner everyone is starting to panic and worry about what is the “must have” for Christmas 2012???? I have no idea and I am not going to worry about it either.

Or the Friday where many folks hope to get the bargain of a lifetime and fight the crowds so they can save a couple of bucks… Is it really worth it I ask? Why do we always have to buy something for everyone for Christmas?? Isn’t Christmas about goodwill and cheer or has that idea been flushed down the toilet too like all the other things in life that once held true…. Times aren’t like they used to be!

I have seen many an ad or commercial for things that I nor my guy need but the ads always say that that is the gift to give and it will make your better half happy. Isn’t my better half happy when I don’t buy him that present??? Will he just stare at me on Christmas day and say to me “How could you be such a tight wad!!” and that would only be because I didn’t do what the ad said …. Buy that expensive gift… It makes me feel like my relationship will end then and there when I don’t spend a bundle of cash. Does my guy still love me ????

My guy would be happy when I do something nice for him or make him something, because he says then he feels that I really thought about him and not just opened up my wallet and spent some grubby looking bank notes on something that will end up in the closet a couple of weeks after Christmas and never to be seen again for the next 15 years… You know what I am talking about?

Someone gives you a present for Christmas [normally with good intentions] and after you have un-wrapped it and thanked them and said how wonderful the present is and it lands back under the tree… the life after is it ends up hidden away after the Christmas tree is taken down never again to see daylight again. I love those gifts and seem to have collected a lot of interesting things through the years and wonder sometimes even today- What should I do with the present??? Throw it away? I can’t do that. Give it to someone else??? Bad idea all my friends know each other and that is definitely out of the question, so what do I do put it in the box with all the other stuff that I have collected through the years.

Plus, there is more to the pre holiday season then just shopping. There’s the decorating of the tree or the smell of baking cookies in the oven or the aroma of a warm punch and all the other great things that go alone with this time of year making it a joyous season.

Enjoy your pre-Christmas preparations and take time to enjoy the small things in life too!
