Lets Wrap Things Up

It’s unbelievable but true 2012 is coming to an end and the dreaded 2013 is just a couple of hours away…. Ole´
Some say that the number 13 is unlucky and other say it’s ok…. Whatever it is it’s a number that we cannot avoid for 12 whole months, so that means we have to live with it!!!

The year 2012 was a rather interesting one with all the events and also a rather sad one too with all the tragic things happening around the world. I have been looking for the past couple of days for good things that has happened in 2012 and believe me they are few and far between…. A sad thing indeed! There are sooooo many sad events that I could list that I would be writing for the next couple of days, and so I’ll just leave it.

I can only speak for myself and say that 2012 wasn’t that bad and it brought some fond memories back to life in my brain and I started doing some things that I never imagined doing in my life… But I was brave and jumped into the cold water and gave it a try. Trying that’s what counts in life.

I am not going to jump on the bandwagon of folks who say “In 2013 I need to make a New Year’s resolution”… Sure it sounds good, but really now…. How many people honestly stick with it???? I am pretty sure not toooooo many. Or am I wrong???? I am just going to take the year as it comes and make the best of things…. Sounds good but for how long??? But I know myself

Anyways, whatever is going on in your life; I wish everyone good health and happiness for the New Year 2013

The Cent is Dead

Again a very sad day has come about in history. The death of the wonderful Canadian cent that will be put to rest and no longer produced.
This is yet again another painful episode in 2012 were our beloved treasures of yesteryear are fading away.

Every summer as a kid I visited my grandparents who had a house on a lovely lake in Ontario and there I would get from my grandfather a handful of those wonderful coins.
I felt like a millionaire with all those pennies in my hand and thought I could buy the world too!
And with my riches we would visit the “Five and Dime” store where I could buy the world with my handful of Canadian cent pieces.

I bought many a great thing with those coins for example great rings or a fan and many a barrette for my hair but the best was when I saved up all my pennies and had a dollar and then the world was mine to have, and that summer with my riches I bought myself a beloved minnow net and spent many an hour out on the lake with my friends trying to catch minnows in my net, and that all with the help of the lovely Canadian cent.

I ask those folks who produce that lovely coin “How can you do that to me?” My childhood memories are only a couple of cents that I have left that I can hold in my hand.

I am sure there are many of you out there with fond memories of the Canadian cent and could cry just like I do at the thought of loosing such precious memories.

Love and cherish your cents that you have because there will never again be a penny made like that again!

The Death of the Encyclopedia

A sad day has now come to our lives as I read yesterday. A company in England that has been printing encyclopedias for hundreds of years will stop printing them. Those wonderful works of art; that we will no longer be able to hold in our hands and enjoy its trove of information is coming to an end. This is heart breaking news and if I had enough money I would buy the company and keep printing those wonderful books.

I remember those wonderful books from my childhood. They supplied me with all the answers to my questions and filled my brain with ideas and the longing to learn more. My parents even up-dated our encyclopedias yearly, so that we had the most up-to-date information. And by doing that we weren’t be behind the times.

Those books helped me with many an essay for high school or my science project and accompanied me through college giving me the wisdom so I could graduate. I remember holding those treasured books in my hand with their leather-bound covers that smelt so nice and the richly illustrated pages explaining to me everything that I wanted to know and more.

Those lovely books stood proudly in the bookshelf at our house there on display in alphabetical order so whoever came by could see that we were readers and had an interest in things. And if I asked my parents a question they couldn’t answer they always said “Look in the encyclopedia and there you will find the answer.” And I did that and was always satisfied with what I found. Plus sometimes I found out even more and this quest for knowledge could be satisfied with those great books.

Now-a-days I only have abridged editions but I own them and I have a couple of others in other languages too, because you don’t find that sort of information anymore.

Things are getting lost in the era of the internet and if you aren’t connected to the internet you seem to be left behind. I ask myself “If you don’t have internet access; how do you get information about certain things?” If there are no encyclopedias anymore in the book form then what do you do? Or is society becoming a mass of people with stagnating brains who have no quest for knowledge?

Hold on to your beloved encyclopedias with it treasure trove of information and you may still even be able to use them to answer your question about something and it still looks good on the book shelf too!

Love

I think it is the most wonderful thing in the world and you don’t need Valentine ’s Day to show that you love someone.
You can do all sorts of things to surprise the one you love with such simple things like breakfast in bed or a voucher for a massage from you, or simply being together with one another and enjoying each other’s company.

Love has many forms; it really isn’t just one thing. Love is holding hands and listening to each other while one of you is speaking plus many more things make one love another person. Love can be painful when you have an argument with the person you love or they are ill and you really cannot help them. But somehow our inner strength brings us to still love the other person.

Sometimes the person you love says things that can hurt you and make you feel sad but then maybe if you speak to each other you can overcome the problem at hand.

The joy when two people see each other after a long period of time. Those are the wonderful things about life that’s what makes-up love.

Love is such a wonderful thing!
